once a site gets too many people, it just a bitch to keep organized/running smoothly, and then previously free webspace providers what to start charging money after your settled in, or the 'accidental' problems thier server's have, encouraging you to upgrade to thier premium packages. once a site starts generating shitloads of traffic, the advertising department is going to want in, and anybody else who thinks they can make some money off the site will be leeching thier way in, offering to help out, but just to help out themselves.
people kind of suck.
i like the smaller more personal sites, where people kind of know each other somewhat, instead of lost in a sea of idiots and spam.
