:?
They're currently at ~$7500, it looks like they'll pass the $8000 mark today.

Does anyone believe it'll make any difference to site performance etc?

Peformance will probably get worse as the site admins spend $2000 on a new server, then go down the pub with the rest.

In all seriousness, it had better make a big improvement. A lot of people have donated money to keep the forums going and it'll make them lose a lot of cred if they don't sort it out.

We have to have faith in SR people.

Give em a chance. I really like SR and without it would probably still be downloading shite with kazaa and not emule - SERIUOSLEY.

I think they bridge the gap between newbie and releaser perfectly.

My story is:L

Was on the main page for ages and then thought wonder what all this forum lark is about. Had a look but got a bit scared and then came back to the safe old main page.

Then started appearing on forum more often, registered, and started leeching (as it where). then thought I can do this, oh, and look there seems to be a thread all about "Most Wanted Un-Ripped Horrors"

Hey guys I'm paul-scream22, and off I went releasing.

Then poor old SR had problems and spud the knight in shining armour gave us a home!

The rest we are living NOW!!!

But we still need SR to keep bringing newbies to the scene.

Todays newbie is tomorows ripper

Anyway yuo kinda get what I'm aiming at:

SR has it's place !!!

I remember that thread - Satan started it.
aah, the good old days
Maybe not, but I would miss SR Forums (and only the forums) for mainstream releases, utils and games.

Indeed PC_Arcade. Plus my Video Nasty thread is on there!

Which reminds me, I gotta get off my arse and do a VN release (where does the time go).

If we could do a poll we could ask which members here originated from SR. I think (people being truthfull) it would be a few!

I think in all honestly it would be most of us, however SR is nothing like it used to be, the frontpage is a total waste of time with releases being put up late without proper thanks etc. The forum has been flooded with idiots who think releaseing fakes or not sharing files they post is funny and generally the place has gone waay downhill. Yeah I'll miss it, but I already missed the way it used to be :(

And lets see if they stop donations or "forget" and see how far it oes

Although people won't donate if they know the target is $8000.

Keeping an eye on the main page for Simon's response!

Ahhh... memory lane.

How I started:

-got DSL (yeah, the most important part I guess)
-started using WinMX for mostly songs... (was hotline and some others before that for various things even on a dial-up)
-started getting into movies
-noticed how certain files with "sharereactor" were usually the best and usually had the most sources...
-finally decided to find out what "sharereactor" is...
-found out about eDonkey
-found out how much better emule was...
-etc., etc.

With the amount of hits SR takes, not really surprising that they got the money. Just hope they put it to good use. SR definitely has a place, even that damn file name addition some people complain about. :)

You did it! (14.10.2003 17:40:26) from Simon Moon
Yes you, the users of SR. To be more exact the 1050+ donators as you can see on the donations page. Thanks to everyone who donated and still does donate, eveything "on top" will not be wasted, every little bit is used to improve SR.

Although i contantly say i am just human and make mistakes, some believe i think i cant make mistakes or be wrong. Well they are wrong. And so was i. I did not believe this would work, i thought it would be a mistake and was thinking about how mayn days i should keep it down until i bring it back up and call it a good try without any results.
I was wrong. You guys were right. Thanks a lot for that :)

If you want to comment on this, please post in this thread.

A big thank you to everyone who donated! It's amazing! I think nobody expected the community to give so much so fast.

Of course the forum will not be fast rightaway. We need to order the hardware, install it and move it to the forum location. This will take time so be patient. There will be additional downtime when it is installed.
You can of course still donate. The money will be used for hardware for the forum, or to upgrade the mainpage servers, or to pay the hosting bills so SR may become adfree!
Once again, thanks to everyone who donated!

Good Luck SR !!!

lmao, now why doesn't that surprise me??

Anyway, I started out in SR aswell, I used to hang out in there quite a lot, and posted my first rip (and my only rip on SR), 'The Gate'. So yeah, I'm glad to see the forums are here to stay ;)
