He killed himself, his ex-wife came by and took all the furniture and other stuff.

That's the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise the murderer would have to be so stupid to take all furniture and still want us to believe he hang himself.

This is not. You don't get any clue from the description that there is an ex-wife, so it would be mean to let that be the explanation. You can get clues to find out how he could kill himself.

He mounted a rope to the car. Opened the garage using the remote. As the car rolled out he was killed. The garage door closed automatically. Right?

That it is an icetruck. The guy dragged a large piece of ice upstairs, stood upon it, then hung himself. After a while the ice melted and the situation described in the riddle evolved.
