I may be a bit paranoid, but I never allow personal pickups. I've
had people win auctions that lived close enough to want to do that
but I've always said no. I feel that introduces new variables into the
equation that I'm not comfortable with. Like, what if the seller ends
up not liking the item right on your doorstep then demands the money
back right then and there. Now they know where you live. The horror! :o

Also, I assume you know you can charge shipping in addition to the
auction's winning bid. I certainly don't pay shipping as a seller. Unless
you are selling something very large, like a piece of furniture, then I can
see where that could be a problem.

thank you, i kind of knew it would be a bit dodgy, but needed a second opinion.

i did know you can charge for the shipping, but i'm too lazy to pack it all up, try to figure out how much the shipping charge would be...etc...etc

thx again tho' :beerchug:

Since the announcement of the feedback thingy, I have noticed a huge downfall in offered products. Whereas there were usually around 480-520 horror DVDs to be bought, there are now around 200 everytime I log into ebay.

How's that on other ebay sites, like the UK?

I have another question: what to do if the deadline for opening up disputes is gone, but you still didn't get your object? My US purchase is taking so long now, it might be this is gonna happen to me, especially since it is the seller who opened up a dispute on me without asking me first about the payment. While not responding to my emails, she might have gotten the check by now and not sending me the DVD. In a short period of time the deadline will pass. So: what to do?

Update on this: I have been cheated officially now. This woman has blocked my email address or she has deleted her mailaccount, because my mails to her are getting returned now as undeliverable. Ebay won't help me because the auction closed too long ago (great job, btw :matrix: ).

So, if it ever serves anything: don't buy anything from ebay user some.beach as she is a fraud.

This is also very good for my prejudices against stupid dumbass Americans.

When eBay goes right it goes right, when it goes wrong its stupid. Girlfriend bought a corset of some dude with like 6000 feedback, yer 6000, crazy and now they arn't returning her emails and it hasn't shown up after 3 weeks, stupid stupid people.

I have sometimes received items after two months, so all is not lost yet. Although it doesn't sound good.

Well she is going to some fetish themed party in 2 weeks...There is a fine line, if she leaves it too late she has nothing to wear, but she could order another from somehwere else and have it not come.

I think its the fact that the place arn't responding which is pissing her off.

Yeah, I've said it before, communication can solve most
of the problems that happen on Ebay. Slayer, it sounds like
your seller was a real jerk. She most likely has put you on
her 'banned' list. It sounds like your attempts at communication
have been forthright so for her to block you is ridiculous. Also,
I'm sorry to hear that Ebay wouldn't step in. Lazy sons of bitches!
They can spend millions on advertising but skimp on the
customer relations dept. Grrr.

eBay they rape you like, fees is gay, you can't be nice.

If I wanna sell a crappy DVD, or a common one, say Zoolander, Charles Angels, Kill Bill you know something most people have that would be cheap in shops... So I put a start price of 99p, it won't even sell for 99p. If I start at 1p with a resonable postage fee, 70p+30p for a jiffy bag and thats still cutting close and I STILL don't think it would sell at that price, plus the listing fee you pay for putting it on there, you get bummed by eBay, royally bummed.

did you pay by credit card to paypal? Get them involved immediately and tell them you want that payment removed and them to step in.

Paypal will shit themselves, and since its the same company as ebay you will see movement.

Best thing about credit cards... fraud protection and you have been the victim of fraud.

Paid in a different way: by bank cheque. My bank can stop the payment, but that will cost me 25 Euros. The amount on the check is around 25 as well, so I'm f*cked anyhow. I could have the feeling that she didn't get the money when I will do a "stop payment", but maybe she already did, and then I lose another 25 Euros on nothing, so that's not an option.

I will never pay Amricans for anything anymore on ebay, that's for sure. When the DVD I wanted to buy is only vailable in the US, I will either try to pay it next time with some creditcard (which I don't have), or I will leave it.

Post subject:  Re: Ebayers Anonymous

your bank charges you to stop a cheque? What kind of third world country do you live in? :o That's really sleazy... i only ever heard of having to pay a fee when the bank was required to extract money from a fruadulent transaction, and these fee's were waived in the end because the recipient was proven to be in the wrong.

Cheques are an archaic way of paying for things, most stores rightly refuse cheques these days because of the hassle and costs and I don't think banks like them either. I've had to pay by cheque on ebay in the past and frankly its a ballache and always avoid it.

Use a debit or credit card + paypal. Do you not have at least a debit card? That's rather odd unless you have a bad credit rating of course, but even then they are attached to current accounts.

All current accounts in the uk come with debit cards (barring online only), most are now visa debit cards. Credit Cards can be attained with zero fees here, although you have to apply for them and if you have a bad credit rating can get rejected of course. I don't have a credit card because I've never bothered applying for one and because my debit card although not secure/as protected, is a visa debit so works where ever there's a visa sign.

Paypal would offer you protection too.

Short, throw away your cheque book mate, its 2008!

I don't have a creditcard because my gf has one, and on the rare occasion that I want to use one, I use hers.

I don't have PayPal because I mainly buy in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, and 99% of the sellers there have bankaccounts to which I can transfer money, which is the easiest, the fastest and cheapest way of paying for me (no transaction costs whatsoever).

The cheque I referred to was ordered via the internet, so I'm not totally old-fashioned ;)

Talking of Third World countries: UK has several examples of being (very much) behind on things. My guess is that you are an exception in your own country

erm.. there aren't any for buyers. The only thing you would pay for is currency conversion and you do with a bank transfer too.

Erm... we, in Europe, have found a great solution for that, which is one currency. There's just this minor problem with one of the members... :P
