Good. It's a great app as you'll never have to phaff about with QuickPar or WinRAR anymore as it's all automatic :beerchug:

So I started this off with SABnzbd and everything looked OK at first - I was downloading at 300 KB/s - 400 KB/s, but now it has trickled down to 1-2 KB/s. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Port is 119 and it is forwarded in the router too.

I've waited 6 hours for the download to finish and now this:

[PAR-INFO] tgp-dvdr-snakews: => Not enough repair blocks left (have: 161, need: 499)

So what now, do I need to download it again? Why are 499 files missing?

EDIT:

Tried again twice with a single MP3 (6 days old) and got this: [PAR-INFO]: => No par2 sets and with another go this: [PAR-INFO] Murray Gold & Tim Phillips - Song For Ten (Original Version).mp3: => Not enough repair blocks left (have: 0, need: 10).

So presumably this free access is limited to brand new same day files?

Looking in the complete folder of SABnzb I can see RARs up to 29 with non RARs from 30 to 92, so are all those incomplete and do I need the same number of PAR files to complete them? If so the whole thing was probably a waste of time, unless it's possible to get that number of PARs elsewhere. :(

I can only assume that the easynews free server has very poor retention. I did try it myself and grabbed a few things np. But as it's free (and a test) they must be limiting it quite a bit.

You could try searching for the missing RARs and PARs at:

http://www.binsearch.info/groups.php

Often stuff is uploaded to different groups so you may be in luck.

Otherwise a fully paid up account is the way ahead.

Can someone help me make sense out these status messages please?

From the previous post, I can guess what the 'Not enough repair blocks left' message means, but what about the others?

1. you have too much corruption and there aren't enough parity blocks to recover
2. its scanning and in the process of parity checking
3. you don't have any parity files included in the nzb so it can't recover.

For 3, you need to get the par set nzb, number 2 its half way through parity check or something like that, for 1, try and get some more pars or get one of the rars with less corruption

This may not be the case for you but recently I discovered that
in using an older version of Agent (1.9 I think) the incomplete
files you save only save until the point of the first missing part.
For example if the part you're trying to save is a 30 part file and
only part 10 is missing, Agent only saves parts 1-9 and the rest
get lost somewhere. Upgrading quickly solved that problem.

I don't use the newsgroups that often so I had Agent 1.9 from
like 2002 or something like that. I'm really not
familiar with other newsgroup readers. I'm assuming that most
of them now-a-days will recombine a partially missing post
just fine.

Is it? I manged to get a DVDR but I still had to unRAR what was downloaded to get the image file. I have 'enable unRAR' checked in Config / Switches so it's not that.

So that's it? No where to go from here? Just delete whatever I already downloaded?

But for how long? It was like that yesterday night. It is noon today and it still says the same.

From where do I get the parity files? binsearch.info again? How will I know which rar has less corruption?

One thing I have noted is that every one of this has disappeared from my queue. What does that show?

@mr agent :)

agent is really meant to be a text/post reader, its never really been meant for binaries which is why its not very good at them. I used to use agent to read news @ uni.

@usb,
1. yahuh... download something that's been posted much more recently, or try and manually see wtf that program is doing
2. i have no idea, i've never used the program and have little intention of doing so based upon this thread now  Its clearly not doing what its meant to, it looks like its frozen half way through or your out of disk space or something like that
3. yup, you usually have either a) everything packaged under one entry b) a seperate rar/other, par and nfo entry and you have to check em all

http://binsearch.info/browse.php?bg=alt ... e.gamecube
See the pars included on most entries? you've probably downloaded one without the pars included, you need to check, if it doesn't say pars, check the associated par box too.

This nzb client your using seems to be hiding everything from you and seems to be making life more difficult for you. I have no idea why you'd want to do that if your a complete newbie, you need to know the stages its doing really.

i would suggest looking at the download directories, trying to unrar stuff if you can and get QuickPar to do some real recovery if need be :)

Winrar + QuickPar + newsbin *hint* *hint*

I don't know its probably formatting your pc or something, sounds like a shitty program that's not telling you what its doing if i'm honest

Have you checked your completes folder?

I think the problem here is this easynews freebie.

Most nzbs include enough PARs to 'fix' an incomplete RAR set, so the likelihood is that easynews isn't carrying the whole set of RARs or PARs for SABnzbd to work with.

Check the downloaded files with quickpar to see what's missing then try to get the missing RARs that easynews is missing from elsewhere. It's easy to see what RARs (and missing blocks from each) are missing with Quickpar.

In saying that I've not used quickpar or winrar with a paid-for account and SABnzbd. Sometimes SABnzbd has to d/load a few PARs (which it does automatically when needed - that is it doesn't d/load any PARs from the nzb listing until it finds missing blocks) to repair a RAR set. Then it just unpacks and leaves them neatly in their own folder

spud, I think I have got the hang of this. Successfully downloaded my first complete DVD-R thru Usenet. :beerchug:

I wonder why I am doing this shit though, when I could just open one of my FTP sites and down the latest release at 1200 KB/s :wacky:

I honestly recommend Easynews (http://www.easynews.com) as I've been using their service for ~ 5 years and have always been satisfied with their service.

Its not the cheapest provider, but it has the best interface /web-tools (global search, par-viewer, thumbnail previews etc.) and if *anything* goes wrong they refund bandwidth.

Its also ludicrously fast - your provider will be only limiter on download rate.

I normally wouldnt shill for any online company, but truthfully Easynews really are that good.

Get lots of incompletes on this trial service, its not really a very good representation of NZBs as a whole ;)

I tried this also for fills. But if giganews doesn't have it, easynews doesn't either. It's awfully incomplete.

Giganews has cut me off on several occasions after capping me, so watch out with them if you are a big downloader. I did 1 tB/month for a while, and each month they throttled it down and tech support would ignore me. If I cancelled and tried to reregister, I had my credit card blacklisted, I'm on my third credit card now though. :D

Newshosting's completion is better than easynews, worse than giganews. They don't mind high download volume but they will boot you if you try to use more than one IP address to connect at the same time.

I can still access this!

The retention seems poor however, it's best to stick to same day NZBs and even then you might need BT to get the RARs you're missing.

Can't argue with the speeds though, I got the latest BSG just now: still at full speed for me (2.2M). :D
