Don't apologise mate, it's free.

You happened to have opened a window to a whole new world for me, thank's for that :beerchug:

With regard to NTL capping, would that just be on the standard 119 port?

I noticed with PC_A 's news provider you have the option of selecting half a dozen ports.

I use 119, 7000, 8000 or 9000 on Newshosting. Doesn't seem to make much difference though. I can up the connections to 20 but Newshosting send out nasty emails for doing that.

Right now though (13:49 - off peak?) I'm d/loading at 1 MB/s on 8 connections on port 8000.

When they do have capping 'on' though it still runs at 200-300 KB/s.

Funnily enough I've not been capped since a couple of weeks after those posts

It looks like UNS have sorted the peering out so they're no longer affected (like Giganews)

So it's a Newshosting problem then. From what I've read NH deny this and blame NTL.

I think that NTL did change their peering in order to control (read cap) traffic, but all it needed was some changes made by the providers by the look of things.

So it IS NTL, but it would seem it's not difficult to circumvent

Got you. Thanks PC_Arcade. I'll just wait for Newshosting to sort it out then, not that it's too much of a problem for me.

Ok......yep it`s fast alright...i got me a dvd rip of Snakes On A Plane in......just under 30mins...yep 30 mins for 700mb.

Now if it was a little less confusing initialy then it`d be sweet, with its websites and selecting of hundreds of rar`s, in fact pretty much the same sort of thing i ditched xdccspy and mirc to avoid.

I`m currently on the easynews server and "might" think of going with a paid service.....i dunno i just seem to have some sort of moral objection to paying for things that have no physical properties...i mean yeah my internet access dosent really but at least i have a modem to show for that.....now if they just gave away a membership card or a badge or something it`d sit easier with me.....

I've just decided to try SABnzb but it won't run. Everything is unzipped into the same folder but all I get when I run the exe is a brief glimpse of a dos window.

The readme states that everything needed is included in w32 unlike previous versions, so it's not that. Anyone?

Run the exe file then open a browser window and enter:

I tried that, got to the config screen and changed the folder destinations to match my hard drive, but it wouldn't have it. Can't remember the exact error message but i created the folders before i put the path.

Do i need to specify the drive or just put ../download if it's on the same drive as the proggie?

I vaguely remember that you have to use the sabnzb folder. I put my downloads there. The incomplete and complete folders already exist so any downloads get dumped in their own folder when finished (unpar'd, unrar'd).

So does SABnzb run entirely from a browser? Is running the exe a one-time thing?

Yes it is. Once running, go to the Home tab and select shutdown to fully close sabnzbd. If you don't do this you can just link to it again in your browser each time you need to run it otherwise (and you have shutdown or rebooted your PC) you'll have to just run the exe again.

I've rechecked the directories. They are:

Download Directory: C:\sabnzb\SABnzbd-0.2.4-w32\downloads\Incomplete

Complete Directory: C:\sabnzb\SABnzbd-0.2.4-w32\downloads\Complete

Optional Dirscan: C:\sabnzb\SABnzbd-0.2.4-w32\NZB_blackhole

Cache Directory: C:\sabnzb\SABnzbd-0.2.4-w32\cache

Log Directory: C:\sabnzb\SABnzbd-0.2.4-w32\logs

Optional .nzb backup directory: C:\sabnzb\SABnzbd-0.2.4-w32\NZB_backups

That screen grab above doesn't show the full paths.

I'm still stuck. I'm in the queue tab and can see the nzb file I want to use but how do I start the download? Clicking resume doesn't seem to do anything.

Maybe I've done something wrong in the config tab. What do I need to put in 'connections' in server configuration?

Is there a proper user guide anywhere? The readme that comes with it is pretty useless.

Under the config tab, then servers, just add a new server: enter your Host - Port - Username/Password - Connections (mine is 8 for Newshosting) - Fillserver (if required). And that should be it.

After I've imported the nzb file under the Home - Add File box the downloads just start. I did have to forward port 8000 in my router too.

@unskinnyboy

If you go here http://www.binsearch.info/groups.php you can have a look yourself, see if anything interests you.

I queued a lot of xbox games on the mule, discovered NG and haven't looked back :D

I've done all this to no avail, it just does nothing. :(

I'm using the default program directories so it can't be that, I've opened a router port and added the server details. When I add an nzb file (I've tried 2, one newer than the other) I can hear my PC chunter a bit and then nothing - it just sits there.

Either it's totally fuxxed or I'm doing something really stupid. Here are some screens of it.

Those settings look OK to me. I've checked against my own and can see nothing wrong.

The only possible thing is the server port you are using. In the last pic 8080 doesn't look right. Try 119 - in fact on the website it does say 119.

Bloody hell port 119 worked! Not sure why it has to be 119 but who cares if it works?

Downloading at full speed now. :D Thanks killingjokezzz. 8)
