I love Emule it's great, but why hasn't bit-torrent taken over this forum?

All you need is the torrent file like an emule link (is it a legality issue)? Is it to do with seeding? I'm not sure?

Can someone shed some light, I'm not coming here and trying to turn your world upside down, just from my POV I prefer torrents...

Dont hate me.

Do not worry, its fine that you prefer torrents, as do many other people. We have a torrent section and feel free to use it if you like them.

However, its worth noting that Torrent is neither the be all and end all, or in my humble opinion any sort of viable paradigm shift from any known filesharing concept for the past 15 years. What it is is rather, and by rather I mean significantly, flawed in some very important ways...

Some other threads regarding torrent:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... ht=torrent (take some of the posts with a grain of salt, the guy was a bit of a tool and got treated as such  )
and here's another:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... 784#166784
If you do a search and restrict it to Site development category you'll get some good posts. I was sure I had done a big piece of the problems with torrents and there are a lot.

If its purely speed, NZB is a far superior system as it no longer involves immediate peers and has zero upload (meaning its safer, faster and leeches have no impact)... its issue is retention which is why you can run both emule and nzb at the same time with no impact on emule. IMO a far better solution than any involving torrents. In fact, I rarely use torrents anymore, I have the ability just neither the desire nor the need for them.

So my POV has become its a technology i see very little advantages in, a lot of steps backwards in, and a technology incapable of turning a world upside down :) Its a technology i've had to use and that's more of a pain than an advantage; its good for replacing http downloads if you are a linux distro guy though since it saves you a bit of upload (talking from the publication side here)

I'm too noobish to use NZB, i would pay to use them but I don't actually download that much stuff.

If I was uploading something I would probably use torrent, but I guess emule is good aswell, ahh I dunno.

People say emule is slow, well torrents are slow, all depends on the source/seeder and how popular it is.

I think I'll stick with a share of both.

Jack, in terms of efficiency, NZBs requires just a single upload (albeit its smart to include a redundancy of 10%). Both emule and torrent are only as speedy as the uploaders (not just torrent), I have on a number occasions got in excess of 200kb/s on emule downloads which is ample for getting the rare stuff.

NZB will work alongside torrent or emule, emule will not work alongside torrent since they both utilise too much upload and your line gets swamped.

As testiment to NZBs speed advantage, its the only time I'll think "why don't i just get the DVDr version?" instead of the rip. I wouldn't dream of doing that on any current p2p because it would take too long and tie up my line. :)

Yer, I'd never download a DVDR from torrent or mule, take the pisssss.

I guess if I got NZB working id be in trouble with the provider for downloading so much, damnnn

I use torrents and emule. Torrent what I can, use emule for the stuff that I cant find a torrent for. It happens a lot, especially around here.

That is true....The thing is I got movies in my collection that I know I will never watch or even browse through...kind of like that with the music too.....I am a complete obsessive/compulsive...I got multiple copies of the same movie too....different rips but same movie....never to be watched. But like you said....there are still gems out there(which you have provided many) so the ball just keeps rolling.....never ending till I die I suspect
BTW...douche bag is a far batter insult...I mean....have you ever smelled a yeast infected cum rotted cunt before?A knobhead reminds me of someone that gives out blow-jobs 20 at a time.A fairly decent insult in its own right but a douche bag gives me that tangy flavor in the back of my mouth when I say it.
This debate over what p2p device you use is silly though...Use what you can when you can as often as you can....as long as it works that is the important thing.Unless you are complete idiot and are using Kazaa or limewire or something silly like that.
One program I hardly hear any talk about(which might be a good thing) is Soulseek....I have gotten tons of music and videos from there as well...Can't comment on DC......not ever used it....where would I find the time? :googley:
