Xvid (not DiVX), and either CD or DVD based filesizes.

Do people still want CD based sizes, cant they just watch the film on the PC, or burn it a dvd, or USB or stream it, what about a 900MB movie, cause I dunno, 4GB DVD is massssive!

No, no point doing cd sizes but don't choose something random... I would stronly suggest following this spec:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12810
This has been adopted by a lot of rippers on various emule sites now.

ie.
1cd = 744mb
2cd = 1.46GB

In terms of codec, i would strongly suggest XviD also... subtitle format I prefer vobsubs or srt :)

I think that a 1 CD rip is ok if the source quality is not good or the movie is rather short (below 1:25).
Don't kill me for saying this, but I like to have a movie fit onto a single CD. :wacky:

"DVD-based" is fractions of a DVD, ie 1/6th, 1/3rd etc. not a full DVD.

If you use Gordian Knot, all the DVD-based presets ViSCeRaL is talking about, are already there for you in the 'Total Size' section of the 'Bitrate' tab. Definitely don't use 900mb when 896mb (1/5 DVD) is so close.

My advice is don't be afraid to ask questions. These guys will talk you through anything. Happy ripping!
