 only metallica would release practice footage, what counts is live & I saw Metallica on the last date of the black album tour in Milton Keynes Bowl & they kicked ass

Saw Maiden on their somewhere in time tour at the NEC but only went to see the support band.. Anthrax but it was a great night, Maiden rocked too

i saw metallica live a few years back and maiden the year after that last... maiden blew them out of the water and have done very time i've seen them if i'm being devastatingly blunt.

Metallica were good though :)

They are different styles of music...

Maiden: commercial poprock
Metallica: harder rock & even that arrogant tosser on the drums is bloody good with his double bass pedal & fancy kit.

Personally I feel that both are a great band to see live, but Metallica have the edge skills wise.

I'd like to see them both on the same stage 1 after the other, that would be a great night

commercial poprock? wtf? they've only had one number one single ;)

Metallica isn't commercial or something? Since black that's what they've been. Maiden still play with the same musical flair they did at the beginning and Metallica... well... st anger is nu-metal if anything and well, if they played that shit at a concert i'd paid for i'd walk out :wacky:

Sorry buddy, that shit don't fly... they both play hard rock

TBH, I lost interst in Maiden after live after death & Metallica after the black album...

either I grew out of it or they both lost it & started pumping out shit & I suspect its the latter.

Maiden target the charts so are commercial, Metallica have their heads firmly shoved up their arse so just do what suits them, good or bad.

I listened to Maiden when I was at school & number of the beast & piece of mind kicked ass when I was 14, but Metallica came afterwards & was much harder & skilled. You only have to listen to master of puppets album & compare it to number of the beast to tell that one is more poppy (maiden) & the other is harder. 8)

Bag Woman for "t3h w1n" :)

@ maiden chasing the charts, you've got to be off your nut :o They are rarely in the charts beyond album sales, check out wikipedia or a stats page. Its metallica that's the mtv2 darlings these days :)

The only song that hit number one is ironically one of their worst tracks; "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter".

Iron Maiden is adrian smith, Steve Jones & Dave Murray.

They added Nicko McBrain at a later date & binned Bruce for a coupla albums that sucked balls.

I love Bruces voice & without him, especially in the early days with paul Dianno singing they suck balls.

Steve Harris's Bass has to have the most pathetic sound known to man & that bloke, despite being a millionaire needs educating on how to play the damn thing. :voodoo:

As someone who has seen both bands in their peak I would say a Maiden show blows any Metalica show out of the water..now if we are talking music that is a different debate...but Powerslave tour owned anything that Metalica put out during master of puppets or And Justice for all tours did....how can you compete with a 40+ foot Eddie running around stage?

So.. no metal eh.
Well here goes:

Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets (From the good old days with Syd still in the game)
The Doors - Morrison Hotel, The Soft Parade, Waiting for the Sun, Strange Days, The Doors
Kingston Wall - I, II, III. (Awesome psychedelic/progressive rock group from Finland.)

Thats pretty much what I had on my pc.. Can't rly think of anything else atm.
Went through all my mp3's and realized that damn I got alot of metal! :P

I sometimes wish i wasn't so young, I've seen all the videos of the powerslave tour and ... well,

You see even on the musical front I still prefer Iron Maiden and I know exactly what you mean about Metallica... I think its all because I'm more of a melodic / classic rock person :) I really like the return of Bruce albums too, I know a lot of people have tuned out long before this, but imo some of their best songs are on the new albums, they haven't lost a trick and despite it being really fresh its still sounds exactly like Maiden. Okay inbetween there's some silly songs in there over the years, that's for damn sure*.

Metallica on the other hand I just don't think they've had it since Black... I can't even listen to St. Anger, I think its a disgrace and a complete and utter sell-out mtv2 album. I was shocked when that one came out. I've seen them a few times, Leeds Festival, Download, etc. they play a solid set.... but damn it, they just aren't as good live each time.

@Floyd, My favourite is "Atom Heart Mother" :)
