Take a look at an IMDb movie page like this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103919/

There is "more" button at the end of the "Genre" and "Plot Keywords" label in the Overview section. They are always the same on every page. :?

I noticed this bug about half a year ago. I'm sure it is a bug, because IIRC it worked a few years back.

What do you think? It's strange that nobody has noticed/reported this so far.

I think what elchupacabra is trying to say is that the "more" link for Genre and Keywords used to lead to different targets - which I also recall to have been this way earlier.

Candyman Genre: Drama | Fantasy | Horror | Mystery | Thriller
Candyman Keywords: Psychological Thriller | Sociologist | Yelling | Hook For Hand | Framed For Murder | ...

They are not the same on the main page, although the "more" link leads to the same page, which is - I think - wrong.

Yes, the things spud listed are not genres, but keywords. If you click more in the Genre list, you get the keyword list.

no that's correct I'd assume; the overview is the broadstroke classifications, the more is the SEO and linking between movies. Its how they build a map of similar movies. Probably a bad description of the page, but its functioning how it was designed.

I think the 'similar movies' is a match between the genre keywords, the highest matches gets promoted into the similar section.

I don't think it's correct. The "genre more" links to the "keywords more". A year back it was not this way. And since keywords are not genres, it's fucked up imho. They could use genres to link between movies too.

I'm pretty sure it has been like that for a long time, I don't ever recall a genre page off of the mainpage, its always linked to "keywords" which are what make up genres.

Why don't you just contact them and ask?

lol, well i'm pretty sure its always been like that and its intentional... i mean the genre listings vary between one and four on the main page so its not like its a space issue. I always assumed it was a kind of "this is why" and then a list of meta-keywords that could be described as genres (I've seen all sorts of crazy shit thrown around as 'genres')

However, I do recall now that they relaunched a new theme about a year back. Let me know what they say :)

btw, have you used allmovie.com before? It is a far more accurate database, particularly regarding production years. For example films like the guinea pig movies have the correct release years.

It indeed looks like it always was that way. I had a look at the internet archive of one IMDb page here: http://web.archive.org/web/20050101-re_ ... tt0095060/
Both links (genre / keywords) lead to the keywords section. So I guess they will tell you that you are imagining things. :wacky:

As i mentioned, i'm not convinced its broken; a genre is merely a description based on plot traits which are described by the occurance of keywords. The encompassing genres don't need a more; I've seen up to five genres listed under genre.

I consider:
1) Action, Thriller, Drama, etc. - 'Weak Genres', don't let the name I gave them fool you, these are the main over-arching genres in my opinion, and are probably the best.
2) Horror - Yes, 'its invokes fear', 'dread'? I consider this weaker than genres in 1. Does that mean that any bleak world view is a horror? Is Fight Club a horror? imo, there's a strong case for it; consider parallels with Psycho and take a step back. Its certainly more horror than drama as most critics have it pegged. The genre very often degenerates into checklist keywords; demons, monsters, witches, etc. Then its horror. I don't consider horror the best description of a movie, as opposed to the classical genres.
3) Sci-Fi, Western - 'Strong Genres', merely the presence of keywords; robot, space, time travel? Then its a scifi. Its a strong genre because its easily definable as the base construction of keywords, but its a bad descriptor because it tells you nothing about expectations of content beyond the keyword presence. Take Dark City and Matrix; Dark City is a thriller, Matrix is an action movie. The weak genres describe the films better than calling them both mere scifis.

We are all encompassing on this site in regards to 2), so you see us degenerate into checklist keywords for inclusion; particularly for subgenres. Because the genre is weak, there are points of contention and it allows the inclusion of far more than an individuals stance. Individual stance plays into it because horror, imo, is not as good as a genre descriptor as we are lead to believe.
