OK, watched Suicide Circle last night and enjoyed watching a well made, original film for a change.

And when i look at the spindle after spindle of CD/DVD's I have, the majority of those films are really naff

Watch once and then never again!

So, I thought it would be a good idea to ask members
Quote:
Have you watched a downloaded film recently that you thought was actually OK, or surprised you, or actually enjoyed watching?

I'm not talking about Undead or Beyond Re-Animator types, those films every-one watched coz they knew were gonna be good, I'm talking about the unknown gems that appear once in a while!

So indulge me and forgive my lazyness, but thought it would benefite every-one if we had a post of unknown films that are decent!

NO SPOILERS though, and don't waffle on for 1000's of words with exactly why you liked the film
Just the name and a brief description of what you liked, will do (and a link!)

Willard, the remake with Crispin Glover, fun, not brillian, but fun and a good, knowing remake (but I like crispin glover, he's weird!)

May, Fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed this, strange, kooky performance by Angela Bettis and quite a sick story too ;)

The gore gore girls, funniest comedy ever.

Dark Water, damn scary, creepy and all round superb

I could go on all day ;)

Can't be bothered to find ED2K links, they should all be pretty well spread though :)[/url]

Good thread. Please keep it going. I too would like to see some nice recomendations.

Here are mine:

Tesis - probably THE most suspence packed movie ever. It had me on the edge of the seat the first couple of times I watched it. Literary.

Cure - If you liked Suicide Club you should definatly check this out. Very very very good.

Forbidden Zone - Did you get to see that? Very funny. A kind of 'Alice in Wonderland' on acid.

'War of the Worlds' (1953) and 'Day of the Triffids' (1962) - If you're not afraid of watching older stuff, this is highly recomended. Great movies.

Story of Ricky - Great gory fun. Quite over the top.

Abominable Dr Phibes, The (1971) - They sure knew how to make'em in the 70's IMO. Entertaining as hell. I too want a pipe organ to play!

And if you're ever in the mood for something else than horror might I suggest the excellent 'Secretary'. Very cool movie, and you can even watch it together with a female companion. Also very usefull in finding out what kind of girl it is you are dating... =)

JD, you are the man for quality films

Tesis was amazing, if you've not seen it, DO SO NOW, I got the Tartan DVD of it, I liked it so much!

One film I wish I could see for the first time again

Cure & Story of Ricky also Top Notch!!!

And Secretary, I rented a week or two ago and was very surprised!!!

Anyway, on the subject of Sleepaway Camp 4, what good Slashers are there out there?

Apart from the well known ones?

Slumber Party Massacre 1,2,3 or Cheerleader Massacre 1,2,3 etc, which ones are worth watching.

Keep em coming!

Dogville looks interesting, will ed2k search tonight for it!

Not overly keen on LvT, but respect his film making.

Lars Von Trier is a weirdo, but you have to respect him....at least he's an honest and quite funny, and whatever you hate his films or not, they get lots of attention.

I wish i could recommend some films but my brain feels quite empty - if youre into books you should read Luke Rhinehart's "The dice man" though.

Gotta agree with John Doe's choices.
Tesis is superb :)

Secratary is on my "to watch" list (still  )

Cure was not bad and the story of Ricky is the ultimate party film :)

Is there an ed2k link for secretary?

I could rip it if there isn't

Wouldn't mind re-watching it also!

There is, I'm pretty sure there's a SR release.

I didn't like Secretary that much, but I have to agree Story of Ricky is extremely entertaining.

On Dogville: it's very different from all other LvT's movies.
The version from Fileheaven is very good.

Ah, We share tastes! =) I'd be most interested to hear what lesser known gems you recomend then. Since you allready saw all my recomendations I'll try to come up with more:

Death and the Maiden - Another very suspence packed movie. Almost at the level of 'Tesis' IMO. The two got nothing in common though.

Delicatessen - Funny stuff

Eating Raoul - More funny stuff

Uzumaki - Not exactly 'GREAT!!!' but has some very interesting ideas.

City of Lost Souls - Am I the only one who very much enjoyed this Takeshi Miike movie?

Dolls (2002) - Kitanos amazing masterpiece

Eh, I kinda strafed a little from the genre there, but it's always nice with variation IMO.

As far as Lars von Trier goes you should check out Riget aka The Kingdom. Very good stuff always balancing between humor and terror. Riget 2 was not that good IMO.

SPOILERS FOLLOW ON CRASH AND SECRETARY!!!

Sorry, but what are you talking about? Crash was a film about our inner craving to always want/own more, to make things more extreme, how we are never satisyed yet still don't want more and yearn for a more meaningfull life. Secretary was about being totally dominated. SM, but not in a kinky 'disgusting' sort of way.. It was about daring to be yourself and not hide your emotions. Not doing what other people tell you/think you should do, but daring to be different. And it was about turning psychological problems around to a more 'positive' use. and much much more that I wont bother writing. Honestly, I love both and can't see what the two could possibly have in common.

SPOILERS!?

well yeah. i guess it's a matter of opinion. to me cutting myself with a razorblade n lovin it doesnt mean in any way that i want to be dominated. the relationship between THE secretary and spader was for me the fact that spader understood her need for pain. understood the fact that for her pain was pleasure. and was willing to let go all reasonable doubts and let himself loose. for some time.

i have to watch crash again to write about it but i remeber that the topic of the movie was the same FOR ME. and secretary just scrached the surface of it.
