I got me first release going, a copy of Zombie Lake, dunno where I got it from tho, if it was from any of you guys then sorry, just a test before I start releasing bigger files LOL Gotta say Bittorrent is working real good for me lately. It is so cool getting complete films at 120+K all the way. BTW I released it on ByteMonsoon.

Do a google for EXPERIMENTAL BITTORRENT CLIENT, and get a copy. Just click the exe file and it is installed, simple as. Next find a site with torrent links on, find what ya want and right click and "save as" the torrent. Find it on ya HDD and click it, tell it where to save and away ya go.

I use the experimental client so I can throttle my upload a bit, otherwise it chokes ya up.

Bittorrent is cool cos you only share the file you are downloading and nothing else. The main advantage is the sheer speed, most ppl acknowledge the fact it is so fast, but due to the way it works files die very quickly on it, many files are gone in 2 or 3 days, so you need to catch the new releases fast.

Dont worry tho ppl, the mule is still master for rare and hi quality files.

Try these sites for a start, http://www.bytemonsoon.net/ http://www.suprnova.org/ Other sites come and go real quick and it can be a royal pain in the arse keeping up LOL

Did anyone try Shadow's Experimental BT client? Is it better than the "official" experimental client?

I am using it now, very stable for me, BT has always been picky, especially with network card drivers, but tis version is just the dogs bollocks mate.

the main problem with torrents is the bloody sites do not stay up long enuff, it is usually huge bandwidth requirements that kill em off.

You guys need to use the BT Shadow client, simply fo rthe fact you can throttle ya uploads with prevents choking of ya bandwidth. :matrix:

I ojnly ever use suprnova really, and it's url isn't http://www.suprnova.org , use it's actual url:
http://elissa.mobilefrenzy.com/get_mirror.php

This selects a mirror site, there are like 10 of the buggers and I have experienced no down time over the past month or so. if you get a mirror that ain't synced, press refresh ;)

Oh and yes, you will need to cap ur upload if your on DSL connection, or any syncronous one for that matter, cos it will suck it dry. I cap it at 30kb/s, cap it too low and u will only get slow download ;)

hey spud, I assume you know about the "feature" of BT, even all the experimental clients, that allows unlimited DL speed with almost no upload?

I don't like Shadow's Experimantal client, imo the Unofficial Experimental one is better, if only for the simple reason that the uplload controls disappear in the former so that I can't control my upload.

experimental does caps download too if you set it too low, not sure about Shadow's, I've never used it.

I use burst!

Just got back into BT. Didn't have much luck on the files I tried before (bad luck I guess), plus I wanted to try Shadow's instead of the regular version.

So, I set my mule back a little to allow for the upload of BT and then set my limit on BT.

Of the files I've aquired recently it was not unusual for me to look at the up/down of BT and see it at 10/130!

Now how is that fair?

Also, would like to know from the people here that use it, how long they keep their torrents going after it finishes?

@karst, I always upload at least twice what I download, altho sometimes at a later date.

@spud, I can download a 1.6gig file at around 120 all the way, and that is with my upload set to 5K, dont worry tho I aint a leech, after I downed this file I set the up to 25 and shared back just over 2 gig.

Actually much longer in the experimental client than the regular one. Just because the latter doesn't allow you to minimoze dl's to tray, and it is annoying to have so many things open in your taskbar. With the experimental one, I usually wait until the ul/dl ratio approaches 1.0.

Yeah, I think that is probably the best... 1:1. Works out well really... you get the file super fast, and then upload the equivalent back at your leisure... NICE!, :)

When a torrent is now longer in circulation... do you get an error message? I got one with a particular file... just supposed that that is what happens when one dies.

I usually ignore error messages and wait what happens. If it downloads, I keep it; if not, then I'll just cancel. But I don't know really what happens when a file dies and if there's any way to recognize it from the client's behaviour. I guess Spud could answer this question...

The problem with uploading with BT is that it sometimes kills my downloads (and uploads as well), even when capped. I don't know why, but some files do this and some don't. That's why if I'm downloading something from BT I usually close my eMule and give the full banwidth to BT's upload. My downloads with BT are supersonic fast, so I feel obliged to give back what I get. Ususally my ul/dl rate on BT is a little bit higher, because I don't watch it too closely, but when I see it's exceeded I close it to make more room for eMule.

Yeah, guess I should have explained it a little better. The error I get comes up when it first starts. The indicator light just stays black. Something about the file not listed or something. Only happened on one file so far.

I have recieved other error messages about corruption, but they never really affected the progress of the file.

Need to take some time to read up on BT. Not sure what the best resource is on it, but will start with the obvious places.

About running BT with eMule...

If I don't setup eMule and BT just right for my upload limit, they fight and eMule loses. BT doesn't seem to be able to maintain a nice even upload flow like eMule, so it fluctuates above the cap. If eMule isn't able to get what upload I have set for it, the uploads in my queue go nuts. What I usually see is everyone downing at approx. the same speed, with some exceptions, but when BT is affecting it the uploads vary greatly. If they are both setup just right then they both run fine, and I can watch my BT movie while it shares back, :)

With mine, BT download drops to about 15 kb/s avg a file, emule drops to 1-2kb/s download per files for about 6-10 files, upload in BT stays at around 15 kb/s but fluctuates, and upload on emule stays at 20kb/s that I lowered it to.
