You are asking to get hacked with that service running.

If you have XP just goto start then run and type services.msc and hit enter. Scroll down the list untill you see it and right click and disable that SOB.

this guy knows his OS :D Same way i use to get to that screen :) Disabling telnet was one of the first things i did after formatting. Izac, if it says manual it can be started by another program. I'd just disable.

are you using XP, 2k or nt? If your using xp, go to run -> services.msc , click the first column header to order, and telnet should be there. It's installed as a default service in all, you have to click second button >properties, then change manual to disabled.

However, even with it disabled, it should still be listed I think.

@JD, double check it aint there mate. It is a security risk and these things need double checking. Someone gaining access to ya system is so much hassle and can have massive repurcussions for you. Imagine if you will that someone gains access to ya rig, they can then use it for many purposes, most often to launch DDOS attacks against websites, and this in turn can lead to ya ISP disabling ya web access.

@Spud, I like to think I know a little  the first thing I do after a fresh install of XP is use services.msc to trim up what runs LOL After that is firewall and AV. I have never been hacked, despite my firewall informing me ppl have tried.

Telephony is set to manual on mine, but does not run as it is not needed. terminal services is set to manual on mine and is running, I think maybe because I have fast user switching on, for some reason, gonna have to switch that off cos I am the only user LOL
