nope. wasted 2 cd's on it now. tried to burn it both with nero and fireburner just to see if there's any difference. Also tried to play it with 4 different players.

thing is it's acting so weird. it's almost as if it's unable to read the cd correctly. but when I tried to just extract the image it behaved the same way. G-spot told me it was able to render it but the places where it's supposed to say what codecs it uses are just blanks. ehh. this is starting to be kind of a mystery to me...

can you tell me exactly what codec and codec version you have installed and use to play this file?

OggDS0995.exe
http://www.vorbis.nu/pub/

ffdshow-20030523
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffds ... e?download

XviD-24062003-1.exe
http://www.rdkleinpowerb.de/computertre ... odecs.html

these are the 3 exe's that came with the release. I already had them installed so i didnt need them.

do you own any other ogg rips? I would recommed trying to find a sample or something small and see if that plays cause if you have the proper codes installed it should play.
do you get audio?
do you have any codec packs installed like nemo? - cause they can sometimes cause conflicts.

when you say you wasted 2 cdr on it
do you mean the burn process was not successful - as in you got errors during the burn process? or your cd/dvdrom drive can not read the disc?

can you open zoomplayer and choose the directory of the xcd and see the dat file? cause if you can i would assume that its not you drive or the disc but a codec issue.

I don't have zoomplayer installed but tried WMP, Koala, VLC, WinDVD and BSPlayer. none works

Tried installing all those 3 files (even though I think I allready got them) to no avail. I do have other ogm files and they all play beautifully.

I don't get either video or audio as the problem seams to be reading the actual file. copying to hd did not help. renaming to both .avi and .mpeg didn't change anything.

eh, here is the hash of the file I've now got after burning.. maybe check if it's the same?
Invaders From Mars.dat.mpeg

yeas, I did install Nimo a long time ago...

wasted cd's meant: Successfull burning, but unable to read file.

I guess I'll try taking it along to a freinds and see if it works there.

i didnt know that version was ogg, but i think i had the same problem with ogm/ogg files as u john. i ended up uninstalling all my codecs and installing the ones above in the order satan posted to do it -

WMP Codecs - If you don't have XP.
XVid
Divx 3.11
AC3 66b
Direct Show OGG filter
FFDShow - Latest alpha.

and use that gspot program on the file, it shows oggs, though not all its info. u can see if u have the right codec

depends on what you have installed.
add remove programs to start with
you may want to install registry crawler as well.

messin with the registry is serious business.
i use 'regcleaner', havent tried registry crawler.

you should be able to uninstall codecs in windows -start-settings-control panel-add/remove programs

then find nimo, old xvid builds, ffdshow, and uninstall them. may want to reboot before you reinstall the new codecs, files in use or not closed dont get removed until u reboot.

IIRC this problem has nothing to do with the OGG codecs, it's to do with the fact that the CD is recorded in raw (?) mode (the same as vcd files) wheras infact, it's an .avi packaged with XCD.

If this is the case then you need the Riff CD/XA filters to playback from here

Hope that helps.

d'oh!
i dont even have this moviefile, i thought they said it was ogg.

i only got 1 xcd of shockwaves. good quality movie. doesnt play on a dvdplayer. i usually try to avoid xcd's, too easy to damage.

Are those the same as what came with MODE2 CD Maker?
Where you take an avi that is 800 MB and just cut out the error portection so it fits on a 700MB disk?

No way of reproducing after the error protection is removed.
/just keep it in a cd case.

At least to my knowledge.?

Mode2CDMaker gives that explicite warning in the readme also.

It depends, dat2file may be able to recreate streams. That's a BIG drawback of xcd and quite possibly the reason it's not more popular than it is.

Having said that, if you install the Riff filters, it should be possible to open in vdub and save as .avi, but I've never tried.

good call PC_Arcade! :beerchug:
way to save the day

honestly JD the nfo said nothing about thoes filters. I kept thinking this was my first xcd. PC_Arcade has refreshed my memory. Free Enterprise was my 1st xcd and the a link for the riff filters was posted on the SR main page a few months ago. Id like to think I would have eventually remembered that on my own but , free enterprise sucked ass so bad that i think i supressed everything sourrounding it. sorry

hope you didnt uninstall too much
