Could anyone tell me how-to use subs(.sub, .srt). I need to hard sub a couple of japanese movies. All the things I've seen seem remarkably complex, an idiots guide to subs would be much appreciated.

Damn, I've run out of whisky for my cornflakes again

OK, I sussed some of it, using subadjust to convert .srt files and then using direct vobsub to view them on the movie. Anything else I should know?

i know virtual dub has some filters to encode the subs into the video. Dont know the webaddress, but i'm sure theres a link at doom9.net.
Bsplayer and zoomplay have options to make movie profiles, so it autoloads the subs each time you watch the movie.
I use some autoplay programs so when i put a disk in it autoloads a player and the subs or whatevere else.

or, if your like me(and i know i am)
you just want to make up shit to put into a subfile, so the person watching the movie says," you know, in the american version of 'ring', that guy never asked that lady to eat spam out of his rectum. Those crazy asians.".

i've never tried doing hardsubs, but softsubs are ultra easy (and preferable to most). I use gknot, make sure i have vobsub installed (sometimes i have to reinstall the vobsub decoder from gknot to get it to register though), and then follow the guide over at http://www.doom9.org .

Basically, go to the subtitle tab, click the first button, load up your .ifo file. select the language your after/remove unwanted one, if it's a one cd movie, rar up the srt file, and rename the archive and idx, if it's 2cd cut it with the next button in gknot (using virtual dub to get the length of the avi for the chop), then archive and rename the subs.

ie.
movie.avi
movie.idx
movie.rar

or

movie.cd1.avi
movie.cd1.idx
movie.cd1.rar
movie.cd2.avi
movie.cd2.idx
movie.cd2.rar

srt files can play from inside an archive and this will save u lots of space (make sure u have the right .idx though)

You might want to look here: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archi ... to_vcd.cfm

It contains a simple description of hardsubbing.

The best and easiest way to view soft-subs is with Koala Player. In addition to auto-loading the subs it also gives you tons of other possibilities like: You can change the font-type, color, size and position. You can speed up or slow it down if the subs are out of sync. And you can even edit the subs if you are a nerd. (hehe. No offence MonkeyM) The latest version 2.6 also has this genuie option that it always displays the text long enough for you to read it, but since I haven't been able to find a working crack for that I'm using version 2.5

Get it here:
http://www.koala.pl/Index2.php?page=Index&lang=en

It's really the best player there is. It's so easy to use, yet it has tons of features which other players don't.

PS: Sorry if this sounded like a commercial ad.

Any recommendations on a good site to DL subs? Usually I can find subs for non-English films using eMule and have got the system worked out to permanently attach them to movies.

But, I also make vcds for my father to watch and he is deaf so there are some movies that are already in English that I would like to burn English subtitles/captions to. I did get to one site that allowed me to directly DL sub files and then foolishly forgot to bookmark it :!:

Thanks
Bri
