I'm down to a couple unfinished d/l's and need to commence changing out most of my system asap which will require a fresh install. I'm using emule and have tried backing up the part files themselves before and then putting them back into the temp folder after a fresh install but didn't work of course. This time I was thinking about backing up the entire emule directory and after reinstalling everything copying it over the new emule directory. Anyone tried this or know if it will work?

to back up temp files, you only need to back up the part and .part.met pairs. I recommend raring it up. You do not need to back up your working emule directory.

Then when you reinstall emule, extract the rar to a folder and then in preference point emule's temp directory to the directory restores.

You then simply need to restart emule and then you have your partial downloads restored :)

Great! Thanks for the helpful info. The space required for the backup is not an issue since I'll be backing up to a separate hard drive which I will reinstall after the OS is freshly installed on my primary drive, so I think I'll just back up the entire directory anyway but still use your method to see if it works. I've tried backing up the part and met pairs and putting them back into the temp directory before but it didn't work. Must have done something wrong.

I just wanted to add that .temp files have the destined size, which means they are partially empty, so they compress really well.

I don't think he wanted to know that, he just wanted to know how to backup the temp files for a format :)
