i noticed recently my cd writing would kill my internet connection. this normal? i didnt see this happening before, but it does now. it seems more on overburning cds, but is this normal?
i use nero 5.5.9.14.
it seems to almost completely stop my up/download just to put a cd in. ive turned autostart off, but it still spins up. is my computer just too old to keep up? its a p2 450mhz, and its always chugging away 24-7.

Is it just your internet connection? Like it just dies instantly, or does it gradually slow? Do you notice unusual increases in amount of hard drive activity or cpu load?
DMA checked?
Hard drive ok?
If it is just your internet connection that is effected by the burning, I don't know...

its not killed instant, its goes down within 3minutes to 0 up or download. and i just noticed that it doest work until i quit nero.
i dont have much else hardware-wise on this computer, no video or sound cards, its basically just for emule(well it was just for mule). only 1 pci card for the dsl, 2 hardrives, and a cdwriter. No floppy disk drive, nothing extra, (not even a case), so i dont think its a conflict with anything. cpu usage from nero is usually 13%.
next time i got to do maintanance and go offline i was going to get everything logged. i am a bit worried people think i just kill my connection once i get the file i wanted done, as untill a few minutes ago i would write a file when i got it done, and not check my computer while or after the cd is being burnt, only to come back 8 hours later with a few understandably mad people.

All the traffic or just the edonkey traffic? Perhaps Nero needs all the bandwidth to copy and send the stuff it burns home.

When I play d2, sometimes my internet connection brokes up, and I need to restart the connection.. Think it have to do with my connection or operator, but hey, it's very frustrating

Set the drive to use DMA if it supports it.

Or try limiting the ram Nero uses to say 40MB.

what kind of burner you have?
What OS?
Does it have some kind of buffer-underrun protection?
BTW, I have a p2 450 that I do all my shit on besides gaming.
Nero 6.0.0.0 works great.=)
But I do also have 512 ram.
Another thought.
Are you using a software modem, like dial up dsl?
Or are you using a NIC card to connect the modem?

Thought about starting a new thread about this, but it is similar to monkey's problem if not the same one just on another computer.
Was happily burning discs as usual with my plextor 48X and nero. On this particular occasion I happened to be surfing and running emule with peer guardian. A few discs into this disc burning marathon, the buffer started to go crazy and my hard drive activity increased significantly. So, I shutdown everything and restarted the comp. From that point on nero just wouldn't do a burn without the buffer going under and the hard drive going nuts. The buffer protection saved every disc I made while trying to fix the problem thankfully. I went through the following steps to try and fix the problem with no luck:
-restart the damn computer
-only nero running
-uninstall nero (even with the clean tool from nero website)
-reinstall nero
-remove drive from device manager
-defrag hard drive
-move cache to another drive
-checked DMA
Now why would it just start doing this crap after many many successful burns? Only thing I can think of is something with windows got shit on. So, I'm going to reformat soon(rather dive into a swimming pool filled with double-edged razorblades).
I'm able to still burn using CDRWin (disc4you), but it acts a little funny too, or maybe I'm just not use to it's burning characteristics.
Will report back if it works. Not that reformatting is much of a fix.

it could also be your cdr getting old and laggy. it seams they require more and more power after a while. It's put in there so that people have to buy a new one every now and then... I've had to cut down my burning speed to 12x.

If that is the case, and that is what is wrong, then I'm pissed. Only had the drive since the middle of March.

I bought mine sometime after new year. so it's not that old either. and I've been burning in this shitty speed for about 2 months now. thing is that the prices on cdr drives has stooped to such a low level that the manufactors aren't making any money off them anymore. And how do they remedy this? Give the drive a shorter lifespan.
I could easily buy a new drive, but there are so many things that have much higher priority in my budget.

Well, somewhere between turning off cd burning in windows and installing the nero 60019 update the problem is gone... not that either one of those things was the fix. Still gonna reformat my os hard drive though. It needs an enema.
