As I am new to most of this shit I need ya help PLZ I grabbed a movie that was TAR format, started to extract it and it stopped after the 10th rar file saying it had corruption, so I assume I need to somehow replace the damaged piece. Could someone tell me how I can remove the damaged rar and also how to replace it?

Would I be right in assuming I can remove the damaged piece and just tell it to ocntinue downloading and it will grab the new piece again?

redownload the corrupted file again.

If it still says it's corrupted, try to find another source for that specific file.

If not, you can always use smartpar, not sure of links.
What it does is scan the holes of the corrupted rars you have and fills them in.

Otherwise, try the ghetto way.

Note this will change the CRC of the Avi.

When extracting the avi file from the many rars, right click the avi it's extracting and goto properties.
Set it to read only.

It should stay after the extreaction is done.

Close the error box, and try to play the avi.

If it plays, watch the whole thing just to make sure there aren't major corruption areas.

WinRAR will only extract about a quarter of the file and then stops due to error. Smartpar says there is no errors or corruption to fix.

WInRAR will also not allow me to do anything to the file anyways.

I cant extract enuff to play a file LOL

WINrar will not fix the tar file, and it only extracts upto the 10th file, I tol dit to fix this and it did, but the filesize is about 18K smaller thanit should be, but it will not let me extract any more of the files from the tar due to number 10 being shafted, and it will not lemme do anything with it.

So when you right click a tar file, select extract here, it will start, but can you see the full file in the same directory as the tars, AS ITS EXTRACTING?

It is the film Mimic 3. I tried to resume download but it says the file is complete.

I know what to do when I have the .r01, .r02 etc files, I know they combine ot make the complete file, but I have never dealt with a .tar file b4. I think it combines into a bin file and I can extract the film from there, but like I said the tar file will not extract past the 10th file cos it is knackered.

Stupid winrar will not let me remove this part from the tar file either, so even if I did get a replacement part again I could not add it to the file anyways.

You can't open 1 of the tar files to see the contents with winrar?

I hope you have the latest winrar?

If this is Bitt or Emule, temporarly delete the 10th file.
Then try it again?

The tar file itself is the right size, but it cannot see past the 10th rar file, and when I extract it only gets to that file then bombs out cos it say the file is messed up. I managed to remove the wrecked file and I am gonna try and grab another copy.

Says fail to repair blah blah. The bloody thing is reading as 0bytes now tho. Fucking thing, took me a couple of days to get that bleeding thing, and now it says nothing in it. It was 780 odd meg, then after I tried to extract it at changed to 250 meg and now it is 0. Think I will just give up now as it says the archive is empty.

Hey Takyon!

I get this alot with News Group downloads!

If you click on the extract button some where in the dialogue box where you select the destination and stuff is a check box for :

Keep corrupted parts

or something like that!!

If you tick that and then extract again it will STILL extrat the corrupted part. 9 tmies out of 10 it will be fine BUT if it's not, at least you know for definite your dealing with a corrupted segment

Hello Mr P, I cannot even get it to start now, it says it is 0 bytes and will not go any further, I checked by moving it to another HDD and checking the used space on the original drive, and it is indeed using no space on the drive at all. Guess i will just wait for it to show on BT or the mule, me and IRC have never gotten on LOL

many a download has been deleted becuase of the little blighters

:matrix:

BUt it will probably show up some where in a different copy/version, so patience is a virtue!
