It seems that most people use this program for ripping, so i'm just gonna do as all the others.

But, which divx codec should I choose to rip in ? The newest ?

More questions will probably come when i'm going to rip :D

It's really upto the ripper which divx to use!!!

I personally like to use XviD over divx becuase I get better results and slightly smaller file sizes!

As for the versions, the only rule I follow is don't get alpha/beta releases.

Stick with the newest stable release!

If you goto Gordian Knots home page they have a bundled codec pack with the best/suggested codecs to use !

It depends also how skilled you are.......

divx5 nearly drives itself, especially when you pick a profile BUT don't do that - It does a poor job of motion compensation then....

Xvid really still is a tricky bitch....and if the source is a bit blurry (ie vhs) DON'T use it...
Yeah I could give you a link for xvid 'newbie settings'...but the results really are not much better than divx.....for that to achieve you need to dig in xvid's advandced settings.....
yes xvid is better .....if you know how....

newbie settings Xvid:
