This one is kinda wierd to me.

Im trying to set up a static ip. But if i go to network connections and try to Right click on local area connection or any icon in 'that' window nothing happens and i end up having to close it with task manager. I googled a few different phrases but nothing came up.

Anyone ever heard or had problems like this?

you mean your right click menu doesn't popup? Sounds like an Explorer problem.

I'm assuming you have a router? I could keep DHCP but tell your router to assign a static ip to your MAC address, its a lot simpler, means you can just plugin new devices and you don't have to configure your desktop machine.

With my router i have to telnet in to assign a static ip with DHCP, you'll probably have something about it on your manufacturers homepage.

Basically with mine:
1) type ipconfig /all at msdos prompt, write down your mac
2) type telnet 192.168.1.1 , type in my password for the router
3) type:
srv dhcp fixip add <IP> <MAC> <Host>
which is something like:
srv dhcp fixip add 192.168.1.100 AA-AA-AA-AA-AA-AA-AA SpudPC
4) reboot my router

Then i have a fixed ip through the dhcp. If you telnet in, use ? to list commands available to you.
