I just downloaded eMule today, not really used to it yet, though I've set a few things off to download, and the speed is totally annoying, do I have to change something in the settings? I'm on 4mb down, 488k up, and I'm getting no more then 10kb/s. Sorry if its a stupid question, cheers.

No it ain;t a stupid question. Make sure u are connected the right way, with a high ID and make sure u are connected to KAD aswell as a ed2k server like Donkeyserver No2. Then build a nice big list, say 100 files and have a bit patience. Leave it running 24/7 to get the best results, build up your credits and by so beeing able to download faster.
Here's some good reading:

Are you behind a router or directly into the modem? This is cable I'm assuming at those speeds. You have to set up ports either way. I suggest some number besides the default, like 50000 or so.

Also, some clients (eMule mods, etc) are stupid and I had encountered a weird problem with a few that KAD would be open (active high ID) and servers were Low ID, regardless of port fowarding/routing.

You should use (as should everybody) eMule MorphXT v8.9, it has worked like magic everytime.

my id has always been high since i installed it. so not sure what that means.
sometimes i get greatdownload speed rate.

most of time it's just typical slow download rates. emule is all weird.

seems best to just go for like 5 files at a time and let it do its thing.
the other week i got a movie over 200kb per sec trhough out the whole thing
