total newbie here really but me and a friend want to transfer files between our pc,s we both have flashfxp installed, how do we connect to each other, do we need an online server or are our pc's servers, do we put in each others ip addresses / any help much appreciated

I use Bulletproof FTP, easy to setup - all your friend has to do after you set him up an account is to log on using your IP and his username / password

flashfxp is a ftp client.

What you also need is a ftp server, like bulletproof or ServU.

Like with emule you also need to open ports in your firewall/router.
You only need port 20 & 21 if you connect active, and with passive you need to open a range of ports. (same ports you configured in your ftp server software).

Thats about it.

So do i need bulletproof as well as flashfxp ? do we both have to connect to an online server or can we just connect to each other. all the online guides refer to connecting to an online server .we have got thet far, managed to connect to a few of the default servers . so when i create a new site what ip address do i put in mine or his ? and do we just make up our own username/password, also is it internal ip or external

you can use irc for pc to pc transfers as well

You need Bulletproof as well as FlashFXP, the PC running Bulletproof is the server that your friend connects to.

You use your external IP address as the server address and you make up the username / passwords within the client
