ok i'm a complete newbie at all this so forgive me if this question sounds extremely stupid but why is emule so slow? it's been running for 11 hours now and the download speed has never gotten above 2.5k/s yet. everything's ok with the settings, i checked, what could be wrong? i used to use overnet which was slow but not as slow as emule is. i dont understand why its so popular when its two times slower than overnet. are all the people on emule leechers who have their upload speed set at 0.5k/s ?

emules a little unforgiving.

It takes some configuring to get right and as always it works on a fair queue system so every-one gets a chance of getting stuff, so yes there's always waits etc!

Depending on what version/mod of emule you're using and what connection you have with a bit of tweaking you can get good speeds!!!

Post back more info and ppl will help ya out

If ya put the effort into understanding/configuring emule then the rewards are great! just look at the releases on this board alone

first. what mode do u use?
second. how many files r u downloading and how many sources u c.
third. u just started using emule - u dont have any credits... which u get by uploading. that's the reason too.
4th - u can always check links before dl. in kazaa - u can dl fakes.. easy.. in emule - seldom.

also try to keep the amount of current files downloading to no more than 30, the less you have downloading, the more connections are spent on the few that are downloading and theoretically the faster they can go. Most of us will have a huge list of downloading stuff, but I manage it by keeping most on stop/pause and then 30 downloading.

u are downloading 14 at 4kb/s, how fast is your line? 56kb/s total, that's about right for a 512 line.

What have you got your upload set at. 256kbit = 20 to 30 , 128kbit = 10kb/s, anything lower than 10 will cap your download speed as emule is anti-leech

I take it you followed this:
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules.php?name=FAQ
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules.php? ... Newbie+FAQ
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules.php? ... r+Settings

In addition you should connect to a server that gives you a low ping but high user count, that will provide faster source exchange.

Emule mods can be found in the official forums:
http://www.emule-project.net/board/inde ... owforum=15

Although you should expect about the same download performance from all.

If you prefer overnet (which for some reason is the opposite to me), but want the benefits of edonkey network, try the official client available from
http://www.edonkey2000.com

It bridges the two networks. Other clients that do this are MLdonkey (not very good on windows imo) and Shareaza. However the performance, and features of emule make it my preferred client.

well of the 14 movies i am TRYING to download only 2 are active at the moment. i have a 1mbit downstream and a 320kbit upstream by the way and i've set emule to download at max. and upload at 25k/s so that should be right.

i am connected to RazorBack with 81 ping (thats pretty good).

i couldnt find any mods from the link you gave me, can you forward me to another link, please?

oh and btw, how can i direct connect to a user? what does it mean?

thanks for all your help.
