Hey guys I am giving Emule a second run. The first time files would never connect so I had to trash it . Now files do download but the connecting time is realllly long. So how long does it take you to connect to a file and start downloading it?

It'll really depend on how long the file has been on the network, how popular it is, and the queues of the people who have it

1. stay on the network
2. don't be impatient
3. upload more
4. download more

;)

if you get a low id then its firewall (you should have 4662 (UDP) and 4762 (UDP) forwarded on your router and unblocked on your firewall, you will see little red arrows on the globe at the bottom of emule if you can't connect to KAD or a server, and yellow if its firewalled). Waiting next to a file means your waiting in queue to get the file

Its sounds like your being impatient, and not leaving your emule client on 24/7. If you leave you your machine on for a week and you don't get a single kb then there's a problem  Everytime you close down emule you erase your position in a queue for a file and its back to the very end of the queue when you reopen emule. When you have no credits next to your name, your essentially just a client that has not been identified as either a contributer or a leecher, you have to wait the full queue time until you get to the first position and the transfer starts. So leave your pc on and queue up more files.

Do those two numbers go under Client port? Should I change my TCP or just the UCP? I am using eMule v0.47c....I changed one of the UCP and now both arrows are yellow

Yes, those are the ports used to connect to emule and kad.

I set mine to generic high numbers, choose 25839 TCP and 29899 UDP or something. They need opening on both your firewall (all of them, if you got a decent one there's no point in having the inbuilt shitty xp one on) and your router ( http://192.168.1.1 ) usually.

ok thanks man! Well I guess this will just take alot of time and dedication. How many Sources should a file have for it to be worth the download time?

anything that is blue will download, or at least i've never had anything that was worth cancelling when it was blue. The only time you shouldn't bother downloading is when its always red/red chunks, and even then that should be after asking for a reshare.

I don't have to wait in these bigs queues so much because i've connected in for several years and have a good ratio. I tend to start downloading as soon as i launch emule, helped on by the fact i have loads of files downloading.

When I had to change (actually was forced to change) from EDonkey to EMule I suffered the change of client behavior, but I didn't quit and left my PC on, then I learned the diffrence, On EDonkey I didnt had to stay connected, because (I don't know how :o ) it managed to always start downloading files after a few minutes (I guess paying for registrartion gave me some priority on their servers  ) but that didn't happened on the mule :suicide: I have noticed that it kinds of balance the DL/UL ratio, what you give on a certain file, is given back to you no more, no less

There are no work arounds in "the Mule's law", you get what you give, so now I'm on 24/7 that way I have great DL speed. I also powershare those hard to get files for as long as my harddrive space allow me, that way they can stay alive on the network for more time

Be patient, and you will be rewarded!!!
Cheers!!! :beerchug:

that's why edonkey2000 was generally blocked by emule for the last few years of edonkey2000s life; it was considered a harmful leech client on its own network

Looking at my statistics back when, there was definitely something to that assumption based on the selective reasoning of how much i'd gotten and given to edonkey2000. It seemed to be much poorer at finding sources but started up on some downloads faster without being tied into upload.

I'm very glad its dead myself, even if it did cause temporary inconvience i do think its for the greater good.

Stuff like swarm and how the makers were even contemplating introducing the tiered/ratio beating for paying customers just emphasised why it wasn't that helpful a program to the network in the end.

About what the numbers mean. I'm using amule atm but it should be the same.

48/69+5(2)

48 = the number of useful sources
69 = total available sources
5 = the sources you are getting another file from (you can only grab 1 file at a time per source)
2 = clients you are actively downloading from
