Ok so I'm back and with a new hard drive and fresh install of Windows 2000.
Have ripped my DVD ok to hard drive, and downloaded Gordian Knot and followed the doom9.org guide exactly.
But when G.Knot loads up VirtualDub it goes at 1 or 2 frames per second
So is going to take 26 hours !!!
I've always used G. Knot with no probs and it goes at 12-15 frames per sec!
So has any-one had any experience of this???
Have tried 4 attempts at ripping but everytime it loads at 1-2 frames per second.
#EDIT#
I know there are several ways to rip but I like G.Knot and get great results from it, so only post if you can help with it.
Don't post saying I use dvdx2.2 etc etc!!
Although at this rate I'll have to switch to a different app

I'm using Lanczos[sharp].
Always have and it's OK!
Will try Bicubic or bilinear to if that could be the prob!
Cheers for quick reply satan!

Often:
With almost all options on , a 700 mb 2 pass on a decent PC , say 1500 mhz, should take ( roughly !) about 12 hrs....( about 5-6 FPS average)
THAT INCUDES PROPER DEINTERLACING ......
However, if you have a progressive Pal dvd (also 700/ 2 pass) ,divx5.05 at least (not sure about xvid) can do it WITHIN half that time !
So yeah - Safe to assume you're doing something terribly wrong...
though not quite sure what....
You satrted up virtualdub up once BEFORE you start up Gknot for the first time right ?
Also you said you upgraded your pc.....You sure you set those jumpers on the motherboard right ?
Oh dear -this is gonna become a long thread.....

yeah I have a new PC, but am using my old one as a ripper etc, coz was sick of having G.Knot running for 15 hours and praying XP doesn't crash!
So all I have done is format PC and install the usual appz!
Everything is the same as when I did my last rip - Zombie Nosh/Contamination and that went at 10-15 frames per second and 15 hours to do!!!
hhhmmmmm, may have to post a rip I already have and research further!
Thanks for all your posts, and if ya can think of anything,
PLEASE POST!!!

It sounds like it's launching in very low CPU. If you want to speed it up, try ctrl-alt-del, Processes>VirtualDub and set priority to high or normal. Should speed it up, but it's far from an ideal solution

15 Hours !!!!, I'm getting around 30 Fps (most of my rips take 2x runtime of the film!!)
Something seriously amiss there Paul
What Codec are you using, and what version?
You know the problems I had with xvid encoding and crashing, all fixed by switching to Koepi's latest stable build.

Have you ever done a true interlaced bitch ? I can manage 30fps provided the disc is pal and progressive..
as for you paul - do indeed a complete reinstall - you can get the newest gknot over here : http://gordianknot.sourceforge.net/
if that doesn't help, you'll be missin some cilinders

30 FPS with interlaced for me (at least I think so, Cradle of fear was true interlaced (IIRC))

So paul, in the light of monkeysmasher having a suspiciously similar problem recently, did you ever find out what was wrong ?
Assuming you did
