Blimey, now things are getting real technical :o
As far as XVID configuration goes, I have no idea there. I didnt setup anything in 1st or 2nd pass, just left it stock. I dont understand what it all means & often get confused when trying to read up coz its all technical terms that I have no prior knowledge of. Yes I'm doing at 745mb. already had 3 rips at that size so far so no problem there. This final (hopefully) rip should be done in the next 10 mins.

One day you'll get to the supreme level of Spud.

Then you won't do things like accidentally mux the audio commentary instead of the soundtrack, or something :spy:

Setup your first and second passes how you desire, make sure they match. Here's a snapshot of mine atm for a big rip:

(take note of the red bits since that's what will differ with yours, you can get jawors 1cd here )

You aiming for 744mb? :beerchug:

I've done exactly the same setting you have here on this 2nd rip which I'm doing as a wopping great 1488mb. I've got the Jawors matrix you suggested, now I dont know if I havent loaded it right, but when I select encode at the end it says cant find stats file & errors on first & 2nd pass.
On your above screen you show MPEG Custom which I assume is where the Jawors needs to be? I clicked edit matrix & loaded in the /matrix file. Any idea what I've done wrong this time?

You've selected 1/3rd DVDr instead of 1/6th DVDr.

When you drop the drop down box, make sure it says 744mb in the filesize box on the bitrate tab. If it does not, actually type in 744mb and re-encode.

1488mb is 1/3rd DVDr.

That's your first problem, you've probably missed that it wasn't 744mb when you set everything up

/matrix is a default folder, you'd navigate to your matrix that you downloaded. Download jawors 1cd, if its 744mb only, and then navigate to the matrix and click it to load it. You need identical settings for both passes.

Hold up, I'm ripping a diffrent DVD, I've set it as 1 cd=744mb, not ticked the split to 2 cds & told it to make 1 file of 1488 mb.

Navigate to jawors how? the only option I've seen to do this was the 'edit matrix' button where I pointed it at jawors 2cd.

I've copied everything to the letter from the above screens (not the red bits) in the xvid first & second pass & it just says cant find stats file.

Ah, your doing a different rip.

Check your stats locations are the same. Also it might sound stupid, but double check you've set first pass to "Two pass - first pass" and the second to "Two pass - second pass". If its still complaining, try delete the registry keys (options tab), or just uninstall/resintall xvid to reset its values. You might have just made a typo or checked a box by accident.

stats files are where xvids saves its encoding data during the first pass. The second pass uses data in the xvid created stats file to create the video stream.

After every encode your registry is updated, if you look in the folder where your doing the encode, in the firstpass.settings and secondpass.settings files there will be a line like the following:
"stats"="I:\\Encodes\\Darkness\\darkness.stats"

the opposite, its suggesting that your allocating too much filesize to the rip.

If you have that good compression at 1/6 size then I suggest trying a higher bitrate matrix.

Try Jawor's 2cd or V3HR and run a comptest with those :beerchug:

I'm using the jawors 2cd lux, but it only asks for that in the xvid settings right before the rip, how do I do it so it makes a difference in the main GK collection of tabs?

Hmmm I don't understand what you're asking.... You change the matrix in the xvid window and that's it ;)

But anyways you should pick a better matrix then like V3HR.
