Thanks a lot. I'll check that progie out.

Here is a link to that progie's thread if someone can't find it: http://bad-good.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8128

Change audio to MP3 VBR instead of AC3. Then, run a new compressibility test.

Should be able to have AC3 with a 1.46GB rip easily and full DVD res.

Yes, I thought so too, but back then I didn't know this:

Quote:
[137.7]% of [0.199] Compressibility Test

Trying the second rip, but this time GK doesn't want me to save a .d2v file. It keeps saying it is an invalid .d2v when I'm trying to load it.

While loading, GK eats up all my CPU and after a very long time it says the above.

Well, I had problems too. The reason was that I didn't wait for the audio (AC3) to be exported. I closed the window and thought it was already finished. :googley:

Then when I tried to open the project file it loaded and loaded and...
Do you use AC3 this time?

After having saved the d2v file, I can't open it anymore. GK says:

Quote:
File is not a valid d2v project, avs or avi!

What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Open the file with a text editor. Check the content.

The beggining should look like this:

Quote:
DGIndexProjectFile11

This is followed by some human readable path and setting informations.
This is then followed by hexadecimal content.

The end should look something like this:

Quote:
FINISHED 0.00% FILM

Delete it and save another.

I know what I did wrong: I was too impatient and closed DGIndex before it had finished saving. Therefore the d2v was incomplete and unusable.

Second rip is ready to go, I'll post results tomorrow.

How's everyone doing?

I'm new to the forum, and I was attempting my first rip. I'm having a problem with the compression check. I keep getting 23.0% of 0.646.

What do I need to do in order to bring up these numbers? Also, when I try to load my last compressibility test it says it used Divx 5.0 instead of Xvid and that the compressibility check failed.

I'm really new to all of this, so if you need pics of GK, I'll need a little help on how to get them for you.

I've followed the instructions in the guide to the letter. I just keep getting hung up on this one spot, every time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to start contributing to this site, as my roommate and I have a number of titles that we can bring to the forum.

Thank you in advance,
Sammi

I'm new to this too, but you could try reducing the resolution or increase the file size. I'm been told the bits/pixel is the real number to watch. .240+ is really good, but I've gotten away with .150.

I don't know where you read about using DivX. I'm fairly certain XviD is the encoder of choice.

I think the problem is that he wanted to use XviD, but the log window of GKnot tells that he is using DivX. Do you have XviD installed?

You got it, elchupacabra.

I definitely have it installed. Found that out for sure when I had to reset it in order to even do a compress check.

So, if I needed to reset the values on the codec, in order to even do the test, why is it telling me that it's using Divx?

I can't make heads or tails of it. but, I'll see what I can do about the resolution and file size, and maybe just wing it. See what happens.

I don't have a job right now, so wasting a day fooling with this sounds fine to me.

I'll keep everyone informed.

Thanks to both of you.

Sammi

I upped the filesize to 1/3 dvd, and the percentage jumped to 80.8% of 0.646...I'm trying to test it again, just to see what happens.

So, when I test it, should it open VDubMod and should it take about 20 minutes? My comp is pretty old (Compaq Presario Laptop, Pentium 3 processor).

Thanks again.

Sammi

Edit: I ran another test and got 84.4% of 0.618.

20 minutes is alright. Did you select the XviD codec at the "bitrate" tab in GKnot?

Yep, I sure did.

I'm going to run it, and see what I get.

Cross your fingers.

Try to encode only a small part of the video first.
