Sound problem. There is something wrong with the Englsih AC3 stream which is on the DVD. I tried 3 times to encode it right, but all 3 times the video came out OK, but without any audio. Then I tried to convert to mp3, which failed. Here is the encoding log of it: Code: | 11-8-2009 19:33:19: Job " 1 - VTS_01_1.avi" started. o Transcode AC3 -> MP3: C:\Rip\VTS_01_1 T01 1+1ch 32Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3 End of Job 1 ( 1 - VTS_01_1.avi). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Gordian Knot Encoding Job Data: Type: EncAudio Container: Audio-Video Interleave (AVI) Number: 1 Name: 1 - VTS_01_1.avi Platform: WinXP (5.1.2600).2

Does the audio play fine when watching the DVD on a standalone?

Yes it does, also the AC3 file plays fine when opening it with VLC.

I think you should demux it and do the encoding without GordianKnot.
1.) Open video in VirtualDub (not Mod!). 2.) In the menu select Audio->Direct Stream Copy 3.) In the menu select File -> Save wav... (enter as filename: dvdaudio.ac3)

OK, so I should make the rip with GK, then kep that file, then mux it with VirtualDub the way you describe, right?

What I described above is a DEmuxing procedure. Meaning splitting something up. In this case, getting only the audio track from the file. But I just noticed that it won't help you, because it is not what you need. I guess you already have the audio in shape of a separate ac3 file, because of the DGIndex procedure, right? Obviously there is someting wrong with the GKnot and/or the tool GKnot uses to transcode audio files. So what I suggest now is: 1.) Encode the video without any audio (with GKnot, MeGUI, VirtualDub alone or whatever) - pay attention of the filesize you enter! Or if you have already encoded it, then remove the junk audio GKnot added to the file with VirtualDub for instance. (Open the AVI, Select in menu Video -> direct stream copy, Select in menu Audio -> no audio, Select in menu File -> save as ... and save it as an AVI file, should only take a few minutes) 2.) Now add the AC3 file with VirtualDub manually. (Close VirtualDub, Open it and open the AVI without the audio, Select in menu Video -> direct stream copy, Select in menu Audio -> From file -> AC3 audio..., Maybe change an interleaving values and add a delay if needed - look at the AC3 filename DGIndex gave you - and Select in menu File -> save as ... and save it as an AVI file, should only take a few minutes) Check the final file. I hope this works.

I'll just encode the video at 746-255= 491 MB. Mmm, the VirtualDub thing tells me the following:

Ah, I have to retry with VirtualDub? OK, will do and I'll report back later.

OK, I installed the thing by rightclicking on the ini file, as described on the website. However, the same thing is happening as before, I get that error message I posted above again. Any suggestions?

You could try the same steps in Nandub instead of VirtualDub (are you using the latest version?).

It is in my programs list in the control panel. It is called AC3 - ACM Codec. That is correct, right? I didn't have VirtualDub before this problem, so I recently downloded it. I assume it is the latest version. It is version 1.9.4.0. When selecting the AC3 file with Nandub, it gives me the following message and then when I choose direct stream copy, and then save as, it goes on saving without any audio.

Another DGIndex pass didn't help, the results were the same.
I got Ac3fix, but I don't know what to do after clicking Process File. There is no new Ac3 file showing up. selected the presumable damaged AC3 file as input, chose a new name for the output and then clicked Process.

Guess you could try muxing it with VirtualDubMod as a last resort.

VirtualDubMod goes and does something, but after saving the avi as a new file (parsing and everything is done), the new avi is 32 MB bigger, but still soundless. I "repaired" the AC3 file, but VirtualDub still gives me the same error message. This is starting to look grim (not for the movie, it is actually a pretty bad movie anyway )
