I'm about to share some movies, therefore some screens would be needed. When i try to open a .AVI file I get this message:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

How do I solve the problem?
I use the Codec All-in-1 for playback.
The reason I go for Nandub, is because Spudthedestroyer uses the program to do screens in his tutorial. I also notice at the sample he uses in the screens, provided for the tutorial, is an .AVI file.

I hope you can help me do some tricks and bring magic to the forum by sharing movz and stuffz.....

Sounds like you don't have divx installed correctly...Use gspot to open the movie and it should tell you what is installed on your system and what isn't. You can use other progs to take screens but nandub is the easiest and most effective way to do so.

Got the Gspot. Got Gspot to analyze the file, although I don't what I'm looking for.
From what I can understand, Gspot teels me that I'm using DX50 to decompress my .AVI filse for playback. The very same codec that Nandub doesn't work with. What Divx codec is then recommended?

Well I usually grab the latest version from mule so I can have the pro copy..I think they are up to 6. something....if gspot tells you that you've already got the codec then what I would do is uninstall the codec pack and try a reinstall...you might have missed an option during the install...other then that I am clueless as to what it could be...Spud probably will be able to figure it out..after all, he is the smartest potatoe I know.

Solved the problem by installing xviD 1.1.3

I stumbled upon a thread with a similar problem, although they where using VirtualDub.
They stated that even though I've installed the codec, it doesn't mean that I have the ability to decode the file.

Thanx for the help.

just to pick up on the advice to install divx... i wouldn't both.

Just get FFDshow Lastest, then get AC3filter, then install the latest xvid. That will handle all the playback stuff... divx codec is unneeded since well, i wouldn't bother encoding and its not needed for decoding. since its mpeg4, xvid should be able to handle decoding in nandub.

I would also uninstall all codec packs apart from the encoding one that you need for gknot, if you intend to encode. other wise its more hassle than its worth.

Links to ffdshow, ac3filter and the lastest xvids can be found in the codecs sticky topic.

Thanx Spud... I'll take your advice into account....

I experimented with Nandub this morning, and it worked like a charm.
Thanx for advisory and help both of you.

I'll post a mov (or two  ) the next few days.....

P.S. Spud is correct. I also thought that smoking ads were banned :outsider: or at least in Denmark it is :beerchug:
