I am trying to watch a movie in media player classic and add subs. I hit quick open then opened the avi. then I hit load sub. and this came up To load subtitles you have to change the video renderer type and reopen the file.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Yes, you're using a popular but rather outdated player in my opinion. You could check out The KMPlayer...it's much more stable and with tons of features, i never had such subtitles problem with it.

...And you don't have to install another software, VobSub, for displaying subtitles (maybe that's what you need to solve the problem?)

how is media player classic unstable? :?

Srts subs usually play automatically for me, put them in the same directory with the same name. Just like you can play different audio tracks without muxing.

I just tried one and it worked anyway. I usually use xbmc player though

I agree with spud on this, MPC is the best player out there

Hmm, have you tried them all? I did...
Anyway, tenorbass, just go to Options>Playback>Output, choose "VMR9 (renderless) ** in the DirectShow video section, and MPC should display subs automatically, just like Spud says.
About MPC stability, well, i did have some problems back then...maybe thanks to a lower specs computer, i don't know. But still, it has aged a bit and has not been really updated in a long time, which is quite a crime for a pseudo geek like me.

actually, I have & imo mpc is the smallest most userfriendly player out there. I don't give a damn bout flashy interfaces, I need my apps to do exactly what I want em to & thats it
