Playing Subs with txt doc?

Ive recently downloaded a few films were the subs are just a txt doc...how do i get them to show as vobsub doesnt seem to pick them up when i play

you can rename it to .sub to show them with vobsub
(and bsplayer can show them anyway)

ah, i just did a 3cd rip of seven samurai, and its my first time ripping the subs. i am really quite tempted to edit them now that i know they can be opened in a txt.
