Hey everyone. I recently completed Duel, found here http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=1487 Looks and sounds great. Here is what's wierd. I want to convert it to CVD to play on my standalone DVD player. Virtualdub doesn't recognize it. TMPGEnc does not recognize it. CCE just locks up. What is different about the way this avi was encoded to cause these programs to error? I can't even detect how it was encoded since virtualdub doesn't recognize the file. But as I said, I can play it with media player, bs player and power dvd, and it looks and sounds great. If anybody needs more info, please let me know.
Thanks for the help

if i remeber correctly it's an OGM file and not really an .avi extension so that may be the reason TMPGenc doesn't want to encode it

Yeah!
OGM's are good files. But you can't do much with them as tools, such as virtual dub etc, don't recognise them!
I've trried numerous ways to re-encode an ogm - but failed

IIRC VirtualDub MOD can deal with OGM files (it can at least get the .avi out). I Could be wrong, but I'm sure I've done this.

Ah... I'll take a look at that!
Thanks
Don't mind OGM but prefer good old avi (XviD!)
Although OGM is just the sound stream isn't it? The film is still encoded in either Divx or XviD, I think

Most times it is Xvid/divx with Ogg Vorbis codec contained in a .ogm container. I have many .ogm, all are xvid and divx. I'd hazard a bet this is the general trend on the ed2k network.

All my ogm files are divx/XviD video contained in an ogg/ogm container!

/me pimpslaps prayer
well next time you answer with a guess or assumption, put "i think" to imply your not sure instead of implying some1 with a correct statement it wrong.
I notice that gspot also can't handle ogm containers, or at least can't get certain details from the file. Hopefully it will be updated sometime to include support. Vdub mod supports ogg vorbis audio streams so that should allow opening of them (you might need to rename to avi if it's being daft)

What????
Anyway , I was posting that the majority of OGM files are XviD/Divx files in an OGG container!
If PC_Arcades tool can rerip the audio to mp3 etc then you'll have a fully fledged .avi file!
Because the video is already encoded in divx4.

Well guys, thanks for all the help! Not 5 minutes after I posted this, I had a hunch, which gspot confirmed, that it was and ogm media stream with divx 4cc, with ogg audio. What threw me was the .avi extension. I have also messed with a few ogg files, but all had the .ogm extension. Anyway, I decompressed it using the decompressor that comes with aiv2vcd, then virtualdub picked it right up. I was then able to convert to cvd using avi2svcd.
If anyone has or is having problems with .ogm files, here is a nice walkthru. http://sigmus.cjb.net/
Thanks again everybody!!!
