the only thing I see on that is compressability check, and of course you use that... if your referring to that, which I doubt, for the love of god, yes you do. Its vital as you need to test to see if your settings will yeild a good result and if you need to change the ratio, bitrate, audio settings etc. Apart from compressability test which is vital, I don't see any other "compress" option unless it's on some submenu I don't see.

Detailed guides on every step is available at:
http://gspot.doom9.org

Tells you what every option does and why you need to use it or not. They made the program and therefore give better answers than we possibly can do

Well it's not lazy it's just that us writing out exactly what you need to do would take a whole website and that's kinda pointless because that's exactly what gknot is :D

That's all, I can repeat exactly what my guide is but it's identical in everyway to that website

The compression test is complicated as it tests the compressability and returns a floating point number and percentage to indecate the quality of the movie and you must adjust your settings accordingly to match the compressability. Bitrates, resolutions, etc. are entirely encode specific and the only way to find the right settings for the rip is via a compressability test. That's what the feature does in essence, and therefore it;s vital to getting a good rip and getting a file meets the specs you enter :)

That and i'm too lazy to copy and paste doom9 here

ok, as i understand - it shows only limit of comression with that codec
so i wont be able to use any additional bitrate.

i just wonder, u guys release rips in high resolution with bitrate about 1000.
i make - 800-900 with low resolution... :-/

bit rate is encode specific unfortuately, and even if you have a high bit rate it doesn't garantee good quality.

My advice is attempt to stay within the TDX guidelines. If you don't know them i'll post. My starting model for a rip is always, 128kb audio, and then scale the resolution to meet the number specified in gknot guides. 1.5 is it for a 1cd rip? I can't remember off hand (the number in the box at the bottom - very important ;) ). Then do a compressability test, then refine the settings to ensure i have quality above 60% (preferably about 65-70%). How to achieve this is on gknot in detailed steps :)

ah, prayer....there's no magic solution.....

If you have pure interlaced NTSC content running over a 100 minutes, then yes get ready for a postage stamp.......

A progressive pal movie of only say 80 mins, well every idiot should be able to achieve bitrate of 1000+ , divx 3,4,5 or xvid....

Divx works great with b frames... Compressibility of 55 % will give a fine picture !

just remeber to see if there is a red box in 'output resolition' on the resolution settingpage of gknot. make sure its not red, especially when u autocrop. i mostly do ntsc interlaced dvds, and every one has needed to correct the output size manually. if the box is red, it wont play, but still says it is encoding. hours of wasted time...
