I know this isnt donkey related, but I would rather talk to you guys anyway :P

So, my #1 defense against spyware is simply using firefox, but I think something slipped past because my laptop's CPU will randomly max out at 100% for no reason. When it does this, I disconnect the wi-fi and it idles back down. Ive tried the anti-spyware apps I normally use, but nothing is turning up. Im sure its a trojan though. Any ideas? Any remedies?

Did you look into the task manager (I assume you use windows)? What process causes the high CPU usage?
What programs did you try to detect spyware? Did you try "Hijack-This" and "Spybot-Search&Destroy"?

yep all that good stuff. normally I would consider myself a pretty knowledgable spyware combatant, but this happened once before on my xp system and i ended up having to reformat :suicide:

my cpu will be redlining at 100%, but none of my processes will be using any cpu, then i suspect that its a spyware trojan, but i look at my network stats and my network isnt in use. But like i said, when i disconnect the wi-fi, the cpu idles back down. my xp used to do the same thing with my wired connection (after i suspected getting the trojan).

Try a process monitoring software that displays all processes. Windows Task Manager is not displaying all processes. However I can't suggest any, because I never needed one.

You could also try monitoring outbound traffic using Ethereal.

Microsoft bought this company because they made the best task manager software:

I have no idea why they didn't integrate it into vista.

I have the same thing every now and then. Too check what causes this i've installed CoolMon so i can see which app. uses the CPU. In my case it's HelpSVC (remote assistant i think) that causes my cpu to max out every now and then. I dunno what's up with that cause i've switched of Remote Assistant but still it starts up HelpSVC every now and then. I then simply ctrl-alt-del and end the process
