I cleaned my computer's ventilators and retartet it. It helped with the sound, but suddenly, the large desktop icons and the ones in the start menu (which I've made small to avoid the problem) looked like this:

What could have went wrong? Seems kind of serious in a way. Anyone?

hmm, looks like your icons are either zoomed or merely corrupted... i believe that powertools (get it from microsoft) has a tool to rebuild your icons, maybe give that a whirl?

I'm using Windows 2000 and experience a lot of trouble with icons:

For some reason occasionally random icons are f*cked up on my desktop.

For some reason Windows occasionally seems to reload all desktop icons and the system slows down like hell.

For some reason Windows needs minutes to load the icons of files on CDs and DVDs. :?

I can confirm what elchupacabra says. Windows and icons is a never ending mistery. I recently thought about moving to linux once and for all, but I couldn't get my WLAN card connect to any access-point for the time being.

Never seen this problem in vista, i've had XP icons being a bit messed up but not if you simply restarted explorer.

Did you rebuild your icons with powertools as suggested?
