I have a DVR with several recordings on it. I want to keep some of them, but I need more space on the HDD of the DVR, so I can't keep them forever. I have seen people post digital TV rips before, so my question is:

How to transfer videorecordings from the DVR to my PC?

I have tried to plug in my network cable, but I couldn't work out how to "see" my DVR in my PC.

There is a USB connector, but I don't have a USB cable with USB connectors on both ends. So, which cable to use?

What exactly do you mean by digital video recorder?

Do you need something like this (connector on both ends)?

Yeah, it seems so. If I connect the DVR to my PC using that cable, will that work?

@ chupa: a DVR is a device which makes it possible to record (digital) TV broadcasts, just like a VHS recorder used to do with normal TV. Example: http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/dvr540/dvr540lrg.jpg

I'm not sure. Did you check your instruction booklet?

Yes, it doesn't say anything about transferring files to the PC.

I have no experience with such devices. But if it doesn't tell you anything about connecting it to a PC it could mean:

1. You can't connect it (which is unlikely if there is a USB jack)
2. You can connect it and it will be detected as an external HD and let you access its contents like any other HD would

So my suggestion is: try to connect it to the PC and see what happens.

I'm gonna try and get my hands on a cable and then I'm gonna experiment.
