Not yet, was going to re-install everything and see what happens.

This is why I haven't done this yet.

Well, it looks like you don't have to reinstall anything.

Ok, I think we found the problem here. It seems to be Virtual Dub and how it displays the video.

I downloaded the AVI sample again just to make sure, because I'm on a different PC with a different monitor now.

Both samples (AVI and VOB) look good when played with Video LAN.

The AVI sample looks like the first picture you posted in VirtualDub. I can't open the VOB with Virtual Dub, because it tells me it is no valid MPEG-2 stream.

Did you try playing the files and taking screenshots with Video LAN?

Yes, it's present on VLC captures as well.

What do you mean by "Both samples (AVI and VOB) look good when played with Video LAN. The AVI sample looks like the first picture you posted in VirtualDub.", when the first picture had the lego effect on the red cape?

Do you mean the AVI looked generally good quality but had the effect or that it looked perfect with no effect?

Great, thanks for clarifying.

Now to work out a way to get decent screenshots. :?
