say, on my daily quest to fuck my computer up beyond repair, i somehow managed to get no sound from media players, though i think ive reinstalled all the needed audio codecs. ive been messing with this for about 20 or so hours, and it just seems to be getting worse.

hopefully someone knows what this stuff is, and how tofix it-

in gspot, on view-installed-audio codecs, there are 2 that stay red no matter what,

WAVE_FORMAT_GSM610
and
WAVE_FORMAT_MPEGLAYER3(MP3)(0x0055)

say **Problem*** Codec not registered**

i had uninstalled every codec i could find, but these 2 were still in gspot as problems. then i uninstalled all my soundcard driver for soundblaster live(i read the conflict with mp3 codecs sometimes). ive reinstalled 1 by 1 every codec i have, my media players, any audio related thing i have, and now none of the avi files have sound in media players. gspot says they are fine, like 4 compatible codecs. except for the 2 problem codecs above.

anybody have any suggestions? i am out of ideas.

besides suicide or gay sex.

ah, i may end up reformating, though i have managed to get everything but the 2 codecs working again, and only 20 hours it took to accomplish nothing. i havent had to reformat my playin' computer yet, and its been almost a year i have it.

i am rather annoyed at windows help dialogs, its always the same stupid bullshit- 'is your computer pluged in?' 'is it working now?' 'do you want me to ask the same question in a slightly different way?''is it working now?''are you using officially signed drivers from microsoft?''are you sure?''try plugging it in again,"
i hate that help thing. it doesnt help.

i thought ffdshow was video?

You can add/remove codecs in control panel>sounds and audio devices>Hardware>audio codecs>properties. Which I assume you were doing.

Then normally you can solve it by downloading a codec pack and installing all audio codecs.

There are options in Zoomplayer register/unregister filters.. Probably works better than your two last options :-)

ah, ive tried everything i can think of,
i uninstalled every codec, both in thier uninstall prog, and manually edited them out of the windows registry. the 2 problem mp3 codecs still stay, i'll take some vidcaps of it after i take a nap.

the bad codecs arent really that important, they seem to only be used by older lower quality avi's, but i think they have something to do with my capture card encoding poor audio.

i'll installing codecs one at a time and registering them with zoomplayer.

hehe,
i fixed the codec problems, and now i know more about registry editing codecs then any normal person should ever know. all the codecs for audio in gspot have no red highlights, they all seem to be working fine, and all my avi files are playing fine. you know, i dont like to toot my own horn, but i am the bravest, most handsome registry editor of all time!</i>
