Do you want to rip a DVD or create one?

To rip and "create": AnyDVD can do the trick for you. You have to find a crack if you want to do more than one disc, though. (cracks easily available at any filesharing site)

So, you have several files you want to put on a DVD? Or do you want to copy an existing DVD on a different disc?

In the last case, try AnyDVD like I suggested. You can put in the Pirates film, then rip it to HDD, and then write it back on a disc.

Reading through it again, my guess is that she downloaded a rip and wants to create a DVD so she can watch it with the DVD player.
But I can't help you there, because I only do it the other way around: rip the DVD to a video file.

I use TMPEGEnc to convert the video to MPEG-2. Then I use TMPEGEnc DVD Author to create the final DVD structure.

Also, check if the DVD player really can't play avi files: many of them can and it will save you from a lot of trouble.

You sure you can't just burn the avi on to a burnable DVD disc and then play it in your player?

If you really need to convert, you can burn it afterwards with anything you like, make sure it fits on the disc, though ;)

Windows has a built in burn thingy, but it lacks a lot of options, which you can have when using Nero for example.
