First of all, I want to know if you can change a movie to a picturefile that you can burn as a vcd ? I know that Nero Burner can change .avi files into vcd's BUT they always get to large for my 700 mb. cd's and I really don't know how large they are.

Another thing, is it possible to get subs on a vcd ?

I hope that somebody knows about this subject :?

You can use TMPEnc to convert the file first.

There is a guide here :

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

Sorry I can't give more help, I only convert my avi's to DVD format so I'm not much good on VCD's. :(

i can not over-emphasize, do not use nero's inbuilt shite converter. Use TMPGenc or CCE and do a two pass encode.

I can't say i've done it myself only a avi to DVDr once or twice but I hear the quality difference is huge.

if a file is over 700mb it CAN still be burnt, it can be 'overburned'-your writer should say somewhere its capacities. It may say that overburn can damage the cd AND the write, but it has never happened to me, or anyone i know,u should try the guieds on doom9.net, or the links there. Ive done a few vcd's but they have been a pain to do.

Thanks all 8)

I know about overburning (finalizing, right ? ) and I often do that, when movies are larger than 700, but when converting in Nero, I don't know what size it is, but its to large to burn it on the disc, even when finalizing ?! :|

If you're burning VCD then megabytes don't matter - runtime in minutes does. I've burnt a MPEG-1 file with size greater than 800 MB mins without problems on 700 MB CD because the running time was 80 mins.

Yes, the reason is that for VCDs part of the space which is normally reserved for error correction is used. Another reason why I don't like VCDs. True, for a VCD it does not matter if a few bits changes. Normally you should not even see this. But it makes resharing quite difficult. Burn a VCD, wait a few weeks, rip it again. If you are unlucky the resulting file will have a different hash than the original.

DJBenz and Spud, to burn DVD you need a dvdburner, right ? + Those cd's is really expensive, arent they ?

Graag, thanks for the information, too bad that most movies is like 120 minutes.

wargand, dont worry, it's not for storage of my films, if i want storage I'll just burn em to a cd....it's just cool if i could watch my films on DVDplayers, and bring em to friends....one of my friends is desperate for Vampyros Lesbos

Oh, by the way, anybody know anything about subs and VCDs (just in case you didnt notice the question the first time)

To burn to a dvd yes you need a dvd burner. DVD-r expensive though????? HELL NO! They fit over six times the capacity of a cdr and are only about twice the cost (I get mine for 75p a pop)! DVD-r drives are now down to about ?135 also, much cheaper than CD-r drives were in this stage in their development.

I burn six/seven movies to one disc which is much cheaper and saves soooo much space when storing them :)

I don't burn VCDs or games to cd anymore, I burn six + to a DVD-r then use deamon tool to mount and play ;)
