Surely you should know now, if you can't see video or hear audio then you simply don't have the right codecs.

Download and install the MKV binary and the latest Xvid (Assuming it is, the technical primitives often use the utterly dire RV9 (relamedia) which looks dreadful even before muxing in 12dubs... if its RV9 get that codec) from the codecs sticky

RV40 is crap codec made by real media. Its not MPEG4.

You'll also notice that all of the facial detail for example is smoothed out and everything looks 'chalky', as if the actors are wearing too much make up.

That's why I personally have no like for that codec.

Found this through search. When I extract the mkv, can I turn it into an avi?

There is no "turning into". MKV is a container, you can unpack it and pack it into any alternative container of your choosing. So yes, avi is fine. You can do it with virtualdubmod if you desire.

mkv is a better container than avi btw ;)

no it really is, your standalone is what is defined as "shit" and doesn't effect the argument about it being technically superior ;)

I could even tell you about the wonderful xbox xbmc player, but i fear it wouldn't be acted upon :D
