The widescreen version looks fine to me, although the image quality is slightly better on the 4:3 version. |

Yep, looks like there won't be a widescreen rip Also, does anyone know if the Japanese(?) cut is fact or fiction? - Supposed to contain more character development between Stone & Durkin plus extra violence/gore. |

I can't see what the problem is - the cropping looks fine. Widescreen often doesn't show more information at the sides than a 4:3 version. See here: http://www.widescreen.org/widescreen_matte.shtml |

Even though it isn't anamorphic, the French disc is 1.66:1 as well, and looking at the screenshots of it here has more picture info. So I think I'll try to order that one, and if I can then I'll encode it and mux the English audio from the German disc. |

The screenshots from the French disc raised my interest. Good luck and tell me if you need help with the audio. |

The real problem with it being Open Matte (essentially 4:3) is that you need push more bits into it, and then when I Zoom to the new Full Screen (16:9) it'll look less-than it would if encoded for it. But hey its really all about having the best version! The VHS I have seems to have lots of gore cut out. |

Not quite sure what you're saying about the different AR's there? Anyway, as the Japanese version is seemingly impossible to find, I tried ordering the French disc but the guy who was selling it fucked me around so much that in the end I told him where he could stick it. So, until I can be bothered trying to get the French disc again, is everyone ok with a rip of the widescreen version off the German disc? |

Yeah man, thanks for the screenie comparisons but I've the US, Spanish and French (which looks crap!) discs so I know about the chroma difference - that's why I've not made a rip of it yet. |

Apologies, no can do with the screenies of the HBO release, sold it for quite a nice profit some time ago. You're not really missing much anyway. |

Well, I just added screenshots of the US HBO DVD (thanks to you btw for the link ), and they look better than the Australian DVD at some point. The picture is less blue, more clear... take a look... |

Yeah, I know, i've been VERY slow on this one, it's because I wanted to wait a little before, and post other DVD edition screenshot too at the same time, cause I was thinking about re-doing all the screenshot, and provide more details from the DVD, like I just did with Pit And The Pendulum... But now that you reminded me, it's on my top priority list, expect screenshot from the Hungarian DVD, Terra Cotta and KSM pretty soon. I'm only missing the ones from Sweden, Italian and French. |
