There is a problem with this file. Their are physically missing frames in the avi. Load it into nandub and see for yourself. The stuttering can be reduced by increasing playback speed, but the frames are still missing which means that a) it was encoded with missing frames b) it was created with missing/juttering frames... the fact that it should be 25fps is probably the likely cause. It sounds like it was made with the wrong template if its 29.9fps, it should be pal since its a pal source.
I would love a proper if that's possible/in production? However, the stuttering is not a software/codec issue in any possibility I can think of.
I can normally solve any fixable problems, and do myself, but I don't think its possible here. Its weird as hell that people can't see it though, you guys got funny eyes or something.... I noticed there's the same things noted on the torrent sites so any chance of someone taking a closer look at their avi again? PCA?
Has another member of STR tried ripping, or another method of ripping to see if it can be pinned down to the encoding process, and if it displays the same symptoms, what was the method of DVD creation? The fact that it was encoded at the wrong fps maybe whats causing this issue.
hope that helps someone pin down the problem.

Its not PAL. I can guarantee that. The original source is 23.97 FPS. I think that it may have been my fault for pushing it to 29.976 on the output from Adobe Premiere. That said, the DVD-R plays fine. The video plays smoothly. It has a weird effect from the created frames, but it runs at full speed. On yours, it runs in slow motion, right?
Edit: I could have probably output at 25 fps and not had the extra frames, but I didn't think of it. Hopefully, this can get owrked out for those who have problems.

no its not slow motion, it just stutters and looks like frames are missing.

I'm happy to re-rip this one, BUT I don't think it's going to make any difference. I've asked the STR member with the DVD to send it to me so I can try to pinpoint the problem, but they no longer have the source

Well, my DVD does this a bit, so I'll take the full blame for it. Something with the conversion from 24 to 30 frames must have caused it. It probably would have been a bit better to leave it at NTSC framerate, since it sounds like my copy looks better than the one released as an Xvid. At least, I assume its worse. Mine looks okay. Not bad enough that I would complain, anyway.
Edit: Actually, I think I might have to take that back. Spud, you're saying that there are actual blank frames in it? Mine definitely doesn't ahve that. I made a crappy .avi of it when I first made it. I just noticed tonight that I still had it. I threw it into Nandub and checked parts of it framte by frame. Therre are no missing frames.

there are no BLANK frames in the rip, spud is referring to frames which should be there that aren't.
[edit]I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that the rip is fine, it's the source that is wrong by the look of things, No offence to you Chadman [/edit]

yup, I'm indeed saying the motion doesn't look fluid in nandub, when you go through frame by frame, it jumps from a frame to the next one but one, instead of the next one.
It seems to be a lot less noticable at the end of the movie than it is at the begining, but I couldn't watch it and have deleted it since

Hmm, well I am more than ready to take the blame., as I said earlier. I['m not sure what else can be done. I was satisfied with the way it looked, so I deleted the original. Anyway, I'll post the sample from my DivX version. That way people can see it and say that it is my fault for sure. If it is and this is the problem....well, its too bad it turned out this way, but I stil consider it highly watchable.. If it was slow motion or the audio was out of sync, it would be signifigantly worse. This isn't so bad, in my opinion.

okay I'm at uni now, but i completed that clip.
Audio is way out of sync, but on the video side, the motion is a lot more fluid... however, the picture still stutters at many times although not as bad, and I've noticed that many of the frames are identical to the last one (load it up in nandub, zoom through a bit and press right a few times).
Do you still have the source files to encode the DVD at the correct fps? ie. use a different author program if the other is force framerate. Perhaps skip out the authoring completely, and just encode the mpgs to avi.
This is all guessing, but I can't think of any other possible cause. Although someone from STR could try rerip this on a different system and make sure it isn't just a freak incident.

okay I rewatched the sample now i'm home and it does play more fluidly and is watchable! The STR version wasn't though, it really did 'stutter' or whatever you want to call it and I did a biggy and deleted that
@chadman, sound is out of whack as you haven't delayed correctly I think, and your keyframes are all messed up which means its a bit unresponsive to zoom through. Need a lower value for keyframes The ar is also off, should be 1.66:1 or whatever I told tak somewhere... I don't know if thats in the source DVD you made, but with DVDs, you have to use a avs script to add blackboarders to fill up the area, else whilst encoding it stretches the video to fill the template.
@PCA, coolness, looked like a great movie! lots of gore

Audio us out of synch by a touch. I didn't realyl notice. Its like that in my final then, sicne i'm pretty sure my rip is from the final edit. Mind you, it might not be since i did re-render it again in 16:9 mode (to correct the AR) The audio prob is probalbly just the first scene, though. I corrected the synch for the later part as it went out of whack when I moved the credits. The rest ishould be okay. Anywey, it was just a test render, never intended to be released.
Good to know that the stuttering isn''t entirely inherent to the source. In that case, I can send you th VOBs if you want PCA. PM me, with details. Unless one of your guys still has them
