Jörg Buttgereit | | Infamous primarily on the strength of his shocking 1987 debut feature Nekromantik, German director Jörg Buttgereit was born to make horror films. His grandmother bought him horror trading cards while he was a kindergartner in Berlin, and for his first communion gift, he received a Super-8 camera. At age 14, he made his first short films, and by the time he was 19, the future enfant terrible of the German underground was already creating controversy by showing concentration camp footage with his questionable 1982 short Blutige Exzesse im Fuhrerbunker.
For the next several years, Buttgereit honed his talent with a series of increasingly disturbing shorts, picking up what would form the core of his repertory company (Daktari Lorenz, Manfred O. Jelinski, Beatrice M., Franz Rodenkirchen, and others) along the way. Then came Nekromantik, an uncompromisingly grim and savagely appalling study of an Autobahn worker (Lorenz) whose progressive mental collapse leads to grave robbing, necrophilia, and a final ghastly act of suicidal masturbation which became the genre's most talked-about gross-out scene for nearly a decade.
After the less caustic Der Todesking and the disappointing Nekromantik 2, it was a generally held opinion that Buttgereit would never match the ferocious audacity of his debut. Then came 1993's Schramm, and such premature dismissals were quickly laid to rest. The obsessively claustrophobic study of a necrophilic serial killer (Florian Koerner von Gustorf) who nails his penis to a table and fantasizes vaginal monsters while he isn't sodomizing nude corpses, Schramm instantly reinvigorated the ebbing Buttgereit cult, solidifying the young director's reputation as one of the few genuinely disturbing voices in contemporary graphic horror.

| Nekromantik (1987) | | Review: Rob is an employee at Joe`s Streetcleaning Agency, a roving team of misfits who visit roadside accidents and clean up the mess. He lives with his girlfriend Betty in a small Berlin flat. Pictures of centerfold models and serial killers decorate the walls. Human body parts are neatly displayed, floating in formaldehyde, sealed in glass jars. Rob adds to his collection daily, much to Betty`s delight. Not content with body parts alone, one day Rob surprises Betty by presenting her with a bloated corpse pulled from a swamp. Betty is overjoyed, and with the rotten corpse between them, they pledge undying love. But all good things must end. Betty soon becomes enamored with the corpse, and leaves Rob alone, taking it with her as a parting gift. Unable to cope with this loss, Rob travels a twisted road of sickness and self-abuse before finding salvation and happiness through a very sharp knife. Completed in 1987, Nekromantik shocked the world, proving that director Jrg Buttgereit and low budget filmmaking were forces to reckon with. Not for the squeamish, Nekromantik was always presented uncut and unrated. Featuring some of the darkest, most stomach-churning scenes ever commited to celluloid, JB`s Nekromantik has been lauded by critics as the first post-modern horror film. German with english subtitles track. |
| Der Todesking (1989) | | Review: 'Der Todesking' is my first experience with Jorg Buttgereit. I have no idea whether it is representative of his other work or not, but after watching this puzzling movie I intend finding out. A verbal description of this movie does it very little justice. Scenes of suicides by various individuals are interspersed with footage of a decomposing corpse. That really gives you NO idea how thought provoking, repellant AND beautiful this movie is in places. |
| Nekromantik 2 (1991) | | Review: Someone is skulking around the graveyard, someone with long red fingernails, a tight skirt and fishnet stockings. Not your typical gravedigger, beautiful Monika yearns for the dead. But this is not just any grave. This is where Rob, the jilted necrophile from the original Nekromantik, can be found - just six feet under. Nekromantik 2 is a horrific journey through one womans sexual desires as she is torn between two lovers: one too dead and one too alive. Directed by German horror auteur Joerg Buttgereit, this highly anticipated sequels shocking conclusion led German`s officials to seize the film during its Munich premiere. Nekromantik 2 is presented here uncut an uncensored in its gruesome entirety. (Dave Williams) |
| Schramm (1993) | | Review: Lothar Schramm is dying, face down in a pool of blood. Behind his closed eyes, fractured memories repeat themselves again and again. He runs by the sea. He lusts after the whore (Monika M.) across the hall. He staggers through life uncertainly. He kills. SCHRAMM is the story of the notorious Lipstick Killer Lothar Schramms last days on earth. Revealed in a series of tightly constructed flashbacks, the film offers an unflinching look into the mind of a serial killer. Uncompromising in its depictions of violence and perversion, SCHRAMM is a poetic masterpiece guaranteed to make you squirm. |
| Manne the movie (1981) | | Review: Manne: The Movie, a strange bit about a man who runs into some difficulty at a soccer match. It runs 4:13 and looks about as good as youd expect a Super 8 film from 1981 to look. Its grainy with some print damage, but easy enough to watch and its always nice to see a directors early work included on their SE DVDs. |
| Hot Love (1985) | | Review: The Lovestory. Buttgereit created a film between lardparody and bloody reality with a teriffic camera and lightborrowings by Bava and Agento. |
| Corpse Fucking Art (1987) | | Review: Finaly a look behind the scenery from Nekromantik, Der Todesking and Nekromantik 2. Shamelessly disclosures, interviews, scandals, grand specialeffects, self-praise, premieres, impoundments and many many more ... A Shokumentary. |

Thx dude.
I need verification on the new (?) rip of der Todesking by ANKA.
For Schramm and Nekromantik i'm currently looking for HQ rips with separate subtitles.
All shorts and CFA are verified and in my share (except Hot Love but that's just a question of hours ).

Great collection,I just finished "Der Todesking"!
I think Buttgereit-movies always have a certain atmosphere, maybe it's because of the low-budget production, maybe it's the way he likes to express things...I can't exactly tell what it is but it's always exciting to watch... :-o
