Tremors Collection (1990 - 2004)

Tremors Collection (1990 - 2004)

Horror movies need more films like Tremors. A premise that is utterly unbelievable -- I mean, why would these worms only start attacking now? Where have they been for the past couple thousand years, New Jersey? Characters that are essentially hicks, and oh do Kevin Bacon and Frank Ward make great hicks. Most movies would go great with popcorn, this would go well with chewin' tobacco. Anyway...

Tremors follows Valentine (Bacon) and Earl (Ward) around on their adventures to see if they can attract every land worm in the tri-state area. The worms are attracted to noise, see, and Valentine and Earl talk a lot, see, so... While the worms themselves are not very scary, the idea of them is kinda cool, and it keeps the characters hopping. The worms supposedly smell very bad, and the characters comment on that quite a bit, so I suppose this movie would go well with a bowl of rancid, rotting meat next to your couch for the full effect.

Tremors is a terrific romp (you go romping, don't you?), particularly when we meet Burt (Michael Gross), the NRA paranoid freak and his wife (Reba McIntire), who utterly take out one of the worms. It made me want to order for chinese, when I saw it... Well, if you haven't seen this movie, then you haven't dissected earthworms as a kid and idly wondered if they would come back for revenge. Viva la worm!

Review: A small town gradually becomes aware of a strange creature which picks off people one by one. But what is this creature, and where is it? At the same time, a seismologist is working in the area, she detects _tremors_. The creature lives underground, and can 'pop up' without warning. Trapped in their town, the town-folk have no escape.

Review: Our underground monster-killing heroes from the original Tremors have split up. Soured that everyone else profited from Graboids-mania, Fred Ward "re-enlists" to battle a new breed of Mexican Graboids. This sequel pokes so much fun at its original plot, exaggerated characters, cheap explosions, and Graboid gore. Tremors I is a prerequisite.

Review: Third Tremors movie takes us back to the small Nevada town of Perfection where local resident and adventurer Burt Grummer returns after traveling abroad and killing carnivorous worms called "Graboids" (introduced in the first movie) and their offspring "Shriekers" (introduced in the second movie) to life in his home town and must deal with some crooked land developers, a thrill-seeking guy named Jack Sawyer looking for wealth in this potential tourist town, and eventually dealing with a new strain of Graboid worms that metamorph into their second Shrieker phase, and whom unexpectedly morph into their third stage for another harrowing battle against Burt and Jack in the desert surrounding the town.

Review: In 1889, the site that will become Perfection Valley is home to the town of Rejection Valley. The inhabitants are completely dependent on a nearby silver mine for its income, and when a hot spring causes graboid eggs to hatch the mine becomes too dangerous to work in. Its owner is Hiram Gummer, great-grandfather of Burt. He arrives in town to fix the problem, but finds he is in way over his head dealing with the monsters. As Hiram picks up the lessons that will one day be imparted to Burt, the town readies itself for a final showdown with the graboids.
