Given that I haven't had time to really develop aspects of the site beyond minor bugfixes and improvements recently, the search being the last addition I made, I'm wondering if there's any additions or issues that people using this site would like to bring up.

I'll get the ball rolling with additions or issues that I've mentioned before, and if people would like to see them say yay or nay (or if its an issue, express your opinion on).

Forums
  • Higher / Lower Quaity - It seems to be hard sometimes determine where teh split should occur. The purpose i think is clear to keep great new rips of movies in one section, to keep rips that aren't as great and may one day be surpassed with a better rip (be it a flaw in the rip, or the simple fact that the movie isn't available on anything but an old source). I don't like the idea of great rips sitting in the same section as rips that aren't particularly well done, but at the same time, I don't see how they really fit with lower quality... where most rips are simply low quality because of the source.

I'm not fond of the idea of imposing lots of rules, but at the same time, it seems people don't really have that high a standard on ripping. There's not been many issues with it in the past, but a few people have had a tantrum when a poorly done rip was moved to lower quality in the past.

There's not enough rips for more than 2 sections really.
  • Update the subsilver and workfriendly headers to match the frontpage alternative scheme (ie change header colours)

Frontpage:
  • Games and TV sections for the frontpage
  • <S>RSS system - This will be done eventually</s>
  • <s>RSS for ed2k releases</s>
  • <S>Comments system for frontpage - i've mentioned it in the past as a feature that will be added at some point</s>
  • Reviews Section
  • Collections feature, where you can select entries in the movies database and link them together in a collections page.
  • Horror on TV system... a TV guide for horror on the box.

Volunteering to help out
If you'd like to volunteer to help add movies to the frontpage then by all means feel free to pm me and ask. Its a simple matter of verifying forum releases, and then going to the frontpage and choosing the thread from a list... nothing like the old system.

Likewise if you visit horror sites and would like to post some news into dead-donkey's system, pm me if you desire to do that.

Like hell am I gonna let escape with that :matrix:

Well , I know there's a demand for a dedicated horror torrent tracker - I know how much the hosting costs.... spare me the outburst -

...and about he old issue of Hq/Lq

define ALL criteria for HQ rip......
Can't just say "make it an xvid and keep the bitrate above 850 mate ..."

You'll have to be more specific * YET * not make too many and tight rule to scare people (young eager padwan rippers) off....
Some people are really quality bitchers mind you ......

....and the frontpage.....yes...well to be honest I'm not sure where you want to go with that ....

As a review site I fear it is doomed to fail .....sorry
(This is the 21st century - every asshole in this world these days thinks he's a film critic - not to mention the next damm plato/kant/nietsche/pickone....)
also judging by which movies have been clicked most....

It might work but you'd have to set it up broader and flashier...with a lot of humour though.....
Like a horror-movie-specialist panel holding up boards  ...I dunno the details...

There's not going to be a tracker here, i'm not touching that shit with a ten foot barge pole . The torrent section is here because mazey screwed things up, and i thought people would like it. Not that many people use it though ultimately anymore. Is there another crazey or something?

The higher / lower thing, I just don't want it to be draconian. i mean they are horror movies, the genre associated with zero budget and crappy acting, there's some big movies obviously, but its a tad harder than most genres because rarely are the films done justice or that good a quality to start with.
Maye your right, suggestions on guidelines?

Atm its like, if its badly cropped, no deinterlacing, basic mistake then lower quality. if the dvd is pretty poor, or the source is below dvd its lower quality too. When you start saying "Rips MUST be...." it begins to sound like the TDX :( Its clear some people have really low quality standards or just don't care that much about keeping the sections neat and tidy (although I haven't seen a poster like that in a long while actually).

The idea of striding for a good rip is sound though. just because the movies crappy, doesn't mean its an excuse not to do a decent rip if its attainable. Just wasteful otherwise.
/me remembers earlier days with all the crappy rips on other networks and shrugs

Surely that's why it might work? Cross-bitching reviews  It would be for anyone to review the movies, not a central group, and then they'd be crosslinked to the movies in the database to download so people know what its about. Not a single person to review every movie.

I just remembered recommend a movie is something that i always like on sites. The review thing is bottom of the pile anyway.

I've added a new theme to the frontpage so it has subsilver (or one that i've made that looks near enough the same).

yeah, there were some posts about how dark themes don't look so hot on crap monitors and stand out when they browse at work. I guess there's an alternative now :)

Personally i know exactly what you mean

Is it possible to have a "leave a comment" option on the news pages on the front page?

If not, replicating the topics in the forum so they can provoke discussion.

It is, that's what i meant by mentioning the comments system. I just need to program/script it

Replicating to the forums is an option sylck.com use, the issue i have with it is that its syndicated news and that would be like just copying news articles to the forum.

Okay, i've whipped up a quick comment system.

You can only post comments as is, editing and deleting will be done when i get the time to fiddle with the access rights and sessions.

Comment system appears to to be double posting and not allowing you to delete the duplicate, see comment on masters of dollars news

by that i assume you meant, you've hit submit twice and the delete button doesn't work

Delete button works now :)

Double posting, i would assume, is the same reason it happens in the forum. The poster hits submit, waits a little while, then hits submit again. Of course the problem is the boards have processed the first submission then the second submission so its a double post. Maybe i should look for the javascript that disables the post button when its been hit once?

pca i forgot to ask, did it double post on you again if you tried?

I think it will have been a double click (ie. connection time out) or what ever, since the code is pretty linear. If it double posts on you next time let me know.

okay, out of interest, who reads the articles for the frontpage at all who uses the forums? Judging by the number of comments there's at least some readers of the articles.

Is it a useful feature? Anything that pisses you off about it?
