I don't ever think everyone will agree about these rules.
I can one speak for myself, but I have no problem with either dubbed movies (to english) or subbed movies. I think the quality is much more important to take into consideration than if it's dubbed or not.
And of course if it's uncut or not. I'll rather take an uncut dvd-rip than a cut VHS-rip in OL with subs.

I still think this may affect what rippers choose to release also. OK I was being petulant saying about pulling any future dubbed rips but say I got hold of the VN2 Trance on R1. R1 discs rarely have subs so I'm assuming it doesn't. Why waste my time ripping and releasing it when people would prefer to have this

ed2k: Der.Fan.-.1982.Uncut.D%C3%A9sir%C3%A9e.Nosbusch.(German.Dvd.Divx3).avi  [703.40 Mb] [Stats]

even though that disc definitely has no subs so either it gets fansubbed in the future or you'll need this if you don't already speak the language

That post made me think of another thing, should Divx3 be allowed in HQ when it looks pants compared to more modern codecs?

I think it's too contentious an issue, what about a compromise?

Dubs / Subs go into HQ (if appropriate) but Dubbed films MUST be included in the thread title e.g. :

movie name (1975) *English Dub*

Spud?

That sounds like a good suggestion. :D

The only problem is that it opens the way for :

English Language movie (1975) *German Dub*

I think we've all stated our case. Now it's for the big man to decide. :)

One more thing: George, please don't think that your effort is not appreciated. Anyone going through the trouble of releasing a movie, only for some gratitude (which one often doesn't even get...) deserves lots of respect in my book. I don't want to take anything away from you. In fact, I think I have some of your releases. :beerchug:

I'm just of the opinion that dubbing always degrades the quality of a movie. A case of different preferences, nothing more. :)

dubbing is by far a worse issue than an older codec, so if dubs aren't going to be moved to lower quality, then there's no point gunning down lesser issues so to speak.

I reall hate the idea of having anything but the rarest of movies dubbed into another langauage rather than english, i don't think anyone should be expecting german/spanish/etc dubs of english films to be @ this site, but there seems to be a couple. Perhaps they need removing althogether? and english dubs must have (ENGLISH DUB) stated, as it stands i've been editing that into people's topic titles for all but english dubbing.
