Interesting stuff.

Do I read the first one correctly: There are more than 4000 registered users with 0 posts? Jesus... :o

Yes your reading that right, the vast majority of users on anyboard come under the "never activated"/"no posts" category.

Some people don't supply a valid email, others don't activate their account. Either way, given that dd is open there is the mandatory registration needed, and thusly I guess people don't vocally feel the need to contribute anything. Which is fine, of course given emule = mandatory upload :)

Could we implement something similar for 0 posters and non-registered users?

They shouldn't get it on a regular basis though. That would qualify as spamming. Sending it once on the other hand to encourage participation might be a good idea.

No, they should get it until they post IMHO, spamming is hardly relevant, it's only a tiny text box at the top of the screen, it's not emailed to them

Also, IMHO the release threads should be hidden from non logged in members

Sorry, I got you wrong. I thought it was mailed. :oops:

I don't know if hiding the release threads would be a good idea. A lot of the stuff released here isn't exactly mainstream and every single souce is needed to keep some files alive. Otherwise I see your point but given the nature of the content here, it might not be the most productive thing to do.

Yeah, I know Spud's not keen on the idea of hiding the release threads either ;)

Well if people are wanting to help out and are looking for a way, there's always been the following options opened.

Incidently, i made another post a few days back if people are wanting to help out:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=10755
If you readily read games/horror/movie/p2p sites then effectively its just copying across info onto the portal.

Forums Threads
If you see horror movie on another site that hasn't been posted, please don't hesitate in bringing it across. I'm surprised to spot the standard and famous horror movies aren't posted here at all. If you browse another site and see something that being shared, you might as well bring it across. I do when i can but i rarely use any other sites anymore.

Advertising
Sigs, etc. I have no problem with that if people want to do it. I know some people do and people click through via that.

etc.

if that "you've not posted" text is wanted, it can be added I guess

Hey Spud I'd also like to add something like that on my forum so if you maybe have some links on how to do it in phpbb I would be very happy :beerchug:

I'll take a screenshot if its that interesting. but 0 has the <10 text too, 0 text in red

@ddem, phpbb is just about as easy as it gets when it comes to customisation, anyway, for this particular trick, just load your includes/page_header.php into an editor. Now you may need to play for a while, since my file is heavily modified for the news ticker., near the bottom after the parse template bit just add something like:

Code:
    if ( $userdata['session_logged_in'] )
 {
      if ($userdata['user_posts'] == 0)
     {
          echo "<font color="#FF0000">We notice that you haven't yet made a post.<br>"
          . "Why not introduce yourself in the <a href="http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewforum.php?f=1">general section</a>"
         . " or give feedback on a release?</font><br>";
       }

        if ($userdata['user_posts'] < 10)
      {
          echo "Important Links: <a href="http://forum.dead-donkey.com/rules.php">Rules</a>, "
           . "<a href="http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=526">Release Guidelines</a>, "
         . "<a href="http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules/faq/index.php?section=emule">Emule Help</a>, "
           . "<a href="http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewforum.php?f=2">Help Section</a>";
      }
  } else {
      echo "<div align="center"><font color="#FF0000">Why not <a href="http://forum.dead-donkey.com/profile.php?mode=register">register</a>?</font></div>";
   }

it will be something like if ( empty($gen_simple_header) ) then a template parse at the end of your file. Don't have a default header to check.

Please note, you may notice that google pops up in the status bar at the bottom of your browser for a milisecond whilst it grabs a javascript from their server when you load a page. Don't worry, these are not ads or anything but is google analytics scripts, which diagnoses traffic, faults, flaws and popular areas of websites so the site can be improved.

It is a webmaster tool that is designed to help improve the design of sites. I will make statistical information available when i get my ass in gear, it helps make that easier too.

i thought i'd let you know incase you spotted it and thought it was those god damn adwords or something equally as addy :matrix:
