yeah, that sounds like a network problem... i think the box died a horrible death a day back, memory got maxed out (that's over a GB!). Going to look back through the logs and see wtf went wrong.

I also mcgyver'd back the box earlier today; some tool didn't know how to assign ips properally and had put the old ips into the /etc/rc.local script so everytime the box booted it became inacessible. I managed to echo "#!/bin/sh" > /etc/rc.local using the vmware command console, then rebooted.

Seems our host just got sold to another guy/company so the support just wasn't there.

I'm talking to the new guy to see if he's any smarter :voodoo:

I have never tried posting in the Sci-Fi forums before, so I don't know if this is a new problem or what. Anyway, I can log in to the Dead-Donkey front page and go to HHAH forums and still be logged in, or I can log in directly to the HHAH forum. But I cannot get into the Sci-Fi forum. Either by logging in from the front page and switching to the forum or by logging in directly to the Sci-Fi forum. In the Sci-Fi forum log-in it says my accout/password are invalid.

Thanks. I tried to register but I never got the registration email. Does yahoo email filter out donkey? I tried to register again, but it does have my name and email so I would have to use a different email to register again. If yahoo is no good, which free email is?

gmail is the best mail provider, has been since it launched and knowing google will be for ever,
yahoo works fine, i just tested it... check your spam box.

I activated your account, make sure you find a mail and tell yahoo its not spam, because you'll miss reply notifications if that's the case.

Something seems to be wrong with the "Frontpage" of the site. It shows URLs below the images of the posting moderator.
Spug, your image seems to be wrong too. It contains two times the same linked image separated by a semi-colon.

It seems to me that we have had the issue of those URLs below the images before.

1. no the frontpage is exactly how it should be, the urls linking below the image are external sites that link to a new article. This is called a linkback (or trackback -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackback ). It has done this for months, upon months now since i update to add in the sidebar. It says no data if all links have been internal. You never noticed it? ;)

So that's not right, its doing exactly what its supposed to be doing. :)

2. my avatar i changed on friday, didn't seem to update it though... weird.

So when someone is linking to an article on the Frontpage the URL of the linking site is listed below the avatar?

yes, its called a trackback:

Quote:
The TrackBack specification was created by Six Apart, which first implemented it in its Movable Type blogging software in August 2002.

The site is fairly slow today. It takes a while for a new page to load, which is annoying.

I can't update my avatar.

When I try (Upload from URL) this appears on the top of the page:

Code:
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions_upload.php on line 790: tempnam() [function.tempnam]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File() is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/forum/:/tmp:/usr/local/lib/php/:/home/main)

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3733: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /includes/functions.php:3153)

I tried without and with deleting the old avatar. :(

Will have a look when I get home, looks like the upload path needs adding to the allowed paths.

Nope that all looked fine, i've chmoded the folder to 777, but i've just changed my avatar and changed it back a few times. No errors.
I did it through the control panel, edit avatar... that what you were doing?

Unless chmoding fixed it.

Yes I used the User Control Panel -> Profile -> Edit Avatar feature. And then "Upload from a URL: ".

It still won't upload it: Avatar could not be uploaded.

Edit: I now chose "Link off-site: " and it worked. Maybe the image (it's the one used now) does not meet some criteria. :?

Same thing here. Can't switch back to my original avatar, when I select "Upload from a URL:" http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh26 ... avatar.jpg.

Other than that the main content of the site (not the links above) looks zoomed in when I get the error:

The site is getting slower over here. In the last month pages take 10 - 20 seconds to load. :(
