probably the daily database backup
time / date / timezone
should confirm/deny that.

Going to try an apache upgrade too tonight. I think the slow posting is reverse dns / ip lookup.

It happened a couple of minutes before posting this:
viewtopic.php?p=206203#p206203

and it happened a couple of minutes after posting these:
http://scifi.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... 899#p30899
http://scifi.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... 900#p30900
http://scifi.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... 901#p30901

in the scifi posting sample I wanted to post all 3 messages one after the other, but you see 2 minutes between the first and 2nd post. That's because the submit of the first message took me 2 minutes! A couple of minutes after that I made the 3rd post and after a long long while I got a mysql error. I checked ~1 hour later and saw that was message was posted.

yeah, i can see hostnames in the access logs so i'm guessing i need to turn that off.
I need to check the times for the cron backups, i need a better way of backup the database.

Maybe i could order some more RAM for the VPS.

Got an error like elguaxo posted on the previous page yesterday. Shortly after, posting this viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20569 took ages.

I found the problem, its the volume of data svn was checking in (images, etc). I moved the cron and i'll disable it.
18599 www 20 0 6852 3416 1044 T 0.0 0.2 0:00.64 ci.sh
18605 www 20 0 1505m 1.4g 2088 T 0.0 76.5 0:31.30 svn

Was causing us to swap.

Just wanted to issue a "Search" without logging in and received the following message after clicking the search button:

Quote:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/www/src/forum.dead-donkey.com/includes/functions_content.php on line 313

Tried it again: same result.
Logged in and tried again: same result.

The problem must have been temporary. Any chance to find out what it was? The time this happened was just when I posted the message above.

you don't say what you were searching for.

Basically its doing a full word search, and the result is cached, its *fairly* efficient. The script execution time is lower on this server than previously, theoretically if the server was loaded, and lots of people were doing complex queries that were uncached and you launched a big search it could not complete within the 30seconds allocated and be aborted.

Exact time and search term plus search restrictions applied are vital for any diagnostics.

Exact time: 2009 September 19, 22:39 (CET)
Search term: "lolita 2000"
Search restrictions: none

Was trying to search for "110 min" and received the following at 18:47 (CET ... it's the same in Spain :wacky:):

Quote:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/www/src/forum.dead-donkey.com/includes/utf/utf_tools.php on line 610

EDIT: I may have to add that this was the second search. First one was "110".

that's an odd one, 110 and 110 mins work fine but 110 min doesn't

Spud could you take a look at the active topics function?
search.php?search_id=active_topics

Have a feeling it's missing a shitload of forums.

hmmm, it certainly looks so... it will be either a typo or a config setting
